Tyranid Hierodule Bio-Titan

Got a brown wash done on the bone armour this morning, and some detailing done this evenening, green on the guns, some grey highlights on the black. Getting there now. Might brighten up some of the red.

Very nice indeed, Forbes.

Aha! Got the general gist of the thing now. Nice artwork. Agree about lightening up the red a notch and might I suggest a cream drybrush along the edges of the legs and other washed bits.

Yep, good spot, the wash has pooled in a few places darkening things up a bit too much.

Played more mini epic last night. Squats vs Orks

This is mid-game, with the Orks pressing, but ultimately get shot up quite a lot by the Squats, ended with a big Squat victory (based on holding objectives and formations destroyed).

The rocks look great on the table too!

Thanks chaps.

The rocks worked well in game too. Blocking line of sight and movement. At one point the Ork Gargant was shuffling one way and the other around it!

Like the rocks and the hill....not too sure about the green and white alien vegetation at the bottom left though.

More mini epic

Played Squats vs Tyranids on Friday night - a very quick game, as the Squats (who had been winning quite a lot of games) couldn't get their gun line into order and were eaten in quick order by my fast slithering Tyranids.

Only one photo I'm afraid as the rest were too blurry to see anything.

This is towards the end of the first turn. My two big attack formations plus a third smaller one, are all making good progress. The Squats have concentrated shooting on a couple of my more shooty formations and done them quite a lot of damage, but not enough to stop the wave of beasties.

At the start of turn 2, my tunnelling swarms would erupted around the big guns (and objectives) at the back of the board. The Squats threw the towel in at the end of turn 2, as most of their infantry and war engines were dead, or nearly dead. They had a few helicopters and the airships left, which would have been hard work for the 'nids, but they were too few to cause much damage.

Squats vs Tau

Continuing our 6mm Sci Fi obsession - we played an attack / defence game. The Squats are defending an airbase, against a surprise Tau attack. The 4 objectives were placed alternatively and the defenders had to be within 12" of the objectives. It turned out there were 2 central ones, then 2 wider ones in one half of the table - this allowed me to defend with the majority of my troops reasonably concentrated. In post game analysis we thought that the attacker should have spread his objectives more - he placed the first one pretty much in the centre of the table!

Early game

The Tau deployed a couple of formations - then lost initiative. I was then able to shoot up one of them badly enough to destroy it and break another. I then ran out of targets so had to put most of my other formations on overwatch. The Tau aircraft then came in - mainly targeting my AA guns - this proved unnecessary as I don't think they managed to hit anything all night! They shot down one Overlord Airship. And airdropped a formation at the back of my deployment - which put some ineffectual fire into my largest formation of infantry.

A little later, looking the other way

My mole mortars have fired on the air landed Tau, and caused a lot of blast markers, but few casualties. The Tau aircraft are in need of flight stands!!

A bit later again

The Tau have switched their attack to my right - putting a lot of fire on to the Colossus (super heavy howitzer tank) - forcing its void shields down, causing a couple of wounds, and breaking it. But they couldn't finish it off. This turned out to be a bad thing! As the mole mortars put some hurt on the most forward Tau unit, killing the commander who had gone too far forward, then the Colossus rallied, and fired all its guns, missiles and more guns at the formations at the back right, and managed to break both of them.

My Bikers have zoomed round and finished off the air landed troops in the middle. In the middle on the Tau side, my Berskerkers have erupted out of their tunnelling moles, just behind the Tau battle suits. Unfortunately they fluffed their initiative roll at this point handing the initiative back to the Tau, but it was too late in their turn to do much damage to the Berserkers. The Berserkers then charged the power suited Tau the next turn - managing to bring one down, and breaking them.

On the left flank at the same time

The Tau attempted to advance a couple of formations of skimmers -  and were shot to pieces by the Overlord airship, the Iron Eagle helicopters and the large blob of infantry. At this point the towel was thrown in.

Post game - the general thoughts were the Tau spread themselves too thinly - rather than concentrating their attack. Despite having loads of aircraft these did little damage. As the Squat player I was largely able to shoot what was in front of me. It didn't help that the Tau player wasn't particularly familiar with the troops - or was particularly awake!
