THE war of 1812....no wonder Russians think Americans are arrogant and ill-informed!

Well, I think the Americans would prefer "A series of unpleasant events we would sooner forget followed by the battle of New Orleans"; "The War for the Defense of Civilization in North America" was never going to take off; "The War Of Yankee Aggression" is otherwise spoken for while the probably more realistic "Everyone Else Was In The Napoleonic Wars so We Wanted In Too" possibly trivializes American motives.

What *do* Russian historians call their 1812 go at Boney?

So the "Great Patriotic War" was part of a traditional (or at least "established") nomenclature?  Neat.
