I recently bought some 6mm DFS 230 gliders but cannot find any definitive information on the markings. I know that in the Luftwaffe designations F7+ was the start for this formation but the significance and method of the numbering system after the balkenkreuz on the fuselage continues to elude me. Anyone have any ideas on how it worked?

It's indeed different from the regular system. There should be two numbers seperated by a dash. The first number is the Staffel, the second number is the plane within the Staffel.

There's an example (Abb. 5) at the end on this page (it's in German though): http://www.luftarchiv.de/index.htm?/flugzeugbau/kenungen2.htm
