Yellow is always a difficult color! and the result is perfect. Well done!

are you sculpting and paint for pleasure or do you have a ruleset to use the new old marine?

It is but I'd really recommend vallejo extra opaques; they give a completely solid base coat before using weaker colours. :)

Thanks for the comments, chaps.  You're going to make me blush  :-[

I have to agree, yellow is tough to get right.  I try to treat it like white, and not go too heavy with the main colour.  Not tried the Vallejo extra opaques before, Getagrip.  They sound interesting.  What is the consistency like on yours: thick like the old GW foundation paints or more fluid?

JChaos79, I'll be using a number of rulesets as this project develops according to how many models I get painted.  To start with, I'll try the Fivecore rules, then, when I get a bit more variety in my force, a warband for In The Emperor's Name (ITEN) will be fun.  After that the 5150 range of games beckons, until finally I have enough figures to get in a game of 40k (in the spirit of nostalgia, I'll probably start with revisiting the Rogue Trader edition of the rules, but end up playing one of the modern versions in order to get more opponents).  It will be a while before I get to the bigger games, though, since I'll have to convert and paint both the Lamenters and their opposition.  Speaking of which, do you have any more pictures of your Ork conversions please?

They're not as thick as GW foundation paints, slightly thicker than ordinary Vallejo Game Colour (can't comment on other Vallejo as I only use Game Colour) but only slightly.

They really cover black and allow a brilliant foundation for lighter colours (sound like a bloody advert don't I  :-[)

I would add this though; there's nothing wrong with your yellow, cracking paint job ;)

Hi,

here it goes (hope you get something worth of it)

Warning: my scultp is not good, so you need some imgaination, I trust that the paint could do the magic. The figures are only one step "convert" so it is needed more details but maybe could give you some ideas.

Maybe the most interesting are (from left to right)

- Inquiistor using a jenizar bowmen
- Ork wierd boyz
- Ork boyz with stick grande
- Ork boz with laser gun
- Orkboyz with bolter (front)
- Ork with power claw (back)
- Orkboyz terminator need to be modeled the arms
- Ork flamer

here is a close up of te inquisitor

Troublemaker had (now sadly discontinued) a great figures for Imperial guard 10mm and (available) some gretchings 10mm

Pendraken WWI and WWII also have some vehicles really suitable with some conversion for rogue trader 40k , i.e. for ork wagons

rest of catalogue for searching ideas

now some generic sci fi guys

Hope it helps !

Let me recommend you Future war Commander, and do not forget to post your battle reports !

Looking forward to see more excellent work!

Thanks JChaos79, you've given me lots of inspiration!  Looks like the ACW models are very versatile, and I seem to remember at least one Blood Axe model wearing something that resembled an ACW uniform, so maybe not much conversion needed there  :)

I'm going for an old school look, so the models you've used will make a great base for the more human-proportioned Orks of my youth.  I'll give some thought to Future War Commander, heard good things about it, but I'll need to get a lot more models made before then!

Who'd have thought you could use ACW for Spacey Marine conversions :o

Great work ;)

Subedai

This thread just shows the versatility of both the figures and peoples imaginations. Well done all, this is developing into an interesting thread.

Crazy thing is I likje SciFi but have no interest in 40K or it's many derivatives and offspring.

Excellent stuff Atavus

Why don't you do a dozen or so conversions then get a mould made of them (Leon has done this for customers in the past* look up Vulpine's Dr Who stuff on the forum). You can then get cast a reasonable force a lot quicker than converting every single model.

*not sure if it still possible though but might be worth enquiring.

It's not really something we'd be looking to do at the moment, we've just got too many jobs on for other folks, especially on the moulding side.

Just a thought on FWC and numbers of figures - it has a skirmish amendments section which might work well for not-40k, and would require fairly limited numbers of troops (esp. If Space Marines get te stats the fluff deserves ;)).

That's not so crazy, Subedai.  To each their own.  I was indoctrinated at an early stage of my wargaming life with 40k (it was the first wargame I ever played), so there is always going to be something special about the game and background to me, even though I've moved on to other genres of game since.  Not so keen on the direction that the latest version has gone, though.

I know that Leon has already answered, but I would also be worried about putting Pendraken in the crosshairs of the GW IP hitmen.  If memory serves, I think it's okay for me to convert models for my own use, but don't things get a bit dodgy when casting is involved?  Great idea, though Matt. Would certainly save me a lot of effort!

Okay, that's me sold on FWC, Toxicpixie!  I was teetering on the edge, but now that I know there's a suitable skirmish game tucked away in the rules, it's on my purchase list for the project.

Having converted all the old battle armour guys I could lay my hands on, I've ordered some more, and started preparing the contents of an alien creatures army to proxy as Tyranids for the Lamenters to fight (I'm not going to convert them, but just do the obvious thing and paint them as movie aliens.  Don't want to lose momentum with the Lamenters!)

Now to pray that the gods of ebay will bless me with a fine harvest of sheckels to spend on the furtherance of my 10mm addiction...
