According to my "Fraser's Word Derivations" (2011 revision, forward by Stephen Fry) "Oik" is a contraction of "Oooh! I Know". It was originally a public school term for the person in the class whose intelligence put the others to shame; the pupil who constantly hand his hand in the air saying "Oooh! I Know." A swot, if you would.

I think it's quite appropriate.   :P

could someone define an oik?

from the Oxford English Dictionary: oick, oik (OIk). slang. Etym. obscure. Depreciatory schoolboy word for a member of another school; an unpopular or disliked fellow-pupil. Also gen., an obnoxious or unpleasant person; in weakened senses, a 'nit-wit', a 'clot'. Hence 'oikish a., unpleasant, crude; 'oickman (see quot. 1925).

Well according to Fenton you're sitting on the dictionary fsn. At least that's what I presume he means by "look under fsn."

Have to report there's been a bit of a c**k up regarding the postal votes for this poll, as the ballot papers won't be back from the printers in time to send out.
Not to worry...I'll fill them all in for you, and then sneak them into the ballot box when no-one's looking.
Cheers - Honest Phil.

I've given them the wrong address, Ian......So THEY won't be turning up.
I'll use one of the 'labs' as an independent and unbiased monitor.....That should be fair. ;)

You're going to have to explain the term "oik" to me. I take it it doesn't stand for Our Innocent Kid?
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

That's pretty much how it works with political elections so I don't see a problem with extending that to monitors  :d
