His records seem to suggest he was a Sgt in the TA before the war then joined the regulars in 1914 and was reduced to private and joined the the 2056th MT, he then got promoted back up to Sgt then a couple of yeras later asked to be reduced in rank to private again

Sadly while all this was happening his son was killed on the Somme
