and welcome to the forum. You will fit right in here with your fine brush work and ability to prescribe medication ;)
er, sorry for this but...where do people post if they want to discuss the competition?
I'm working on a little piece - after biting the bullet and agreeing to come on board for the laugh - but there just seems to be that much banter everywhere, I don't know where to post?

Leon.
I've started to display my wip on my entry in the thread you created on the Steve Dean forum - it can be viewed there, should anyone wish - or it's featured in several posts so far on my blog. My work's as rough as a badgers backside, I know. But it's been fun doing it, so far.
Sorry if I've rocked the boat, I do wish to take part, but sometimes finding where to post on here can be intimidating.
*You can all boo and hiss at me now, if you like.*
I'll keep checking for replies, and will thank anybody now who points me in the right direction for the discussion thread.

Welcome - the level of banter is high at the minute - perhaps its the weather?
Where you have posted is as good a spot as any to discuss your painting entry - if you want you could create your own thread in the Painting sub-forum, then if you want to show your progress it will all be in one place.
Off to look at your wip shots now.
"my new blog - people friendly, no nudity "
That's not quite true is it now....
I think I prefer the painting of the Queen than the bearers. But the extreme contrast can work very well, and really brings out the definition of the sculpting.
I like them all!
Just seen Hertoroi's jumbo in single base entry.

May be a reason entries are quiet this year! Plus I've a huge batch of 15mm Flames stuff this weekend, then I can get into production mode! :D

Cheers for your thoughts on my painting - I agree with what you've said. I'm hoping to buy in some more Pendraken toys and really give it a good crack at improving my painting. The smoothness of my paint application being of the highest priority.

Matt, what reference do you have for gold stars and 12 stripes? Would love to include at least one of those in my force to catch out the button counters ;)
Continental Congress resolved in 1777, "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." Nothing on how to lay the stars out and I have come across many variations while trying to sort out flags for my AWI
Still trying to decide if I will include a Guilford flag :-\
Did a double take on those Continentals, thought at first they were 15's. The grey lining on the white must have taken an age. Lovely stuff, sirrah.

looked at some pics on the net and made up something that was doable at this scale. I'm also pretty sure the hat braid shouldn't be there either!
QuoteThe grey lining on the white must have taken an age. Lovely stuff, sirrah.
Thankyou! Not grey lined though. White undercoat, watered down grey paint wash then 3 highlights, light grey, lighter grey then white. I use watered down paint on the highlights so they blend a bit better.

Kev, an amazing1690s fire base. :-bd
Inspirational for me as I'm about to do my AWI artillery. What colours did you use on the guns and carriages?
Thank's Paul,
These are field blue, then field blue and white mix at 75 percent blue and 25 white, then apx a 50 percent mix for the highlight.
If your doing red guns i found shadows flesh, then gory red followed by a flat red highlight works well, the barrels are a dry brush of polished gold.
If i can help with anything else let me know,

Great job, Kev. How many ball-point pens did you have to wreck to get the cannon-balls? ;)

I finally posted my entries (vehicles) as I got tired of waiting for the decals I ordered (not to Pendraken).

Well, I finally managed to take some reasonable photos of my entries today, so am one happy bunny. I learnt how to crop images as well which was cool, but I'm not sure how to re-size some of the images that I posted? If it's a problem, hopefully Leon can help...

Resizing is not too difficult. In the first image tag (the img text between square brackets), you can add width= and the width you want (i.e. width=400). Some examples below.

There's the User Guide up in the top Forum Info board, but it doesn't really explain the pics properly. As Oldenbua says, you can resize by adding a width tag to your image, so you would have {img width=400} or {img width=600}, etc. (with the proper brackets and not those funny ones!)
It's never a problem though, I check every post that comes in and edit any pics where necessary.

You should be able to edit your own posts (up to a certain time?) There's a little icon in the lower righthand corner of your own post. If you click it you go in edit mode. You don't have all the buttons and stuff from the regular editor though, so you have to know what you are doing! But you should be able to add width=xxx to the img tag.
Thanks to Ithoriel, we now also have a 'Modify' button. :D

Not sure how long the option to edit remains but it is possible to get back the "buttons and stuff from the regular editor."
Use the paper and pencil icon if you just want to correct spelling mistakes or to add or remove a word but if you want to make major changes you can use the modify button to get back to the normal interface.
Edit and Modify icons shown below so you know what you're looking for :)
Am I right in thinking some people are entering the same items in multiple categories? And isn't that trying to take two tricks with one ace?
QuoteAm I right in thinking some people are entering the same items in multiple categories? And isn't that trying to take two tricks with one ace?
Well, I've taken individual 'stands' from my wargames armies that have been entered into the Open category, and entered them into the appropriate 'single' category; ie Pre-20thC foot. Now I don't see this as a problem. Others may disagree. If it does cause a problem, the judges can let me know and I'll decide what to withdraw.
I'm not a professional painter, just a wargamer that likes his armies to be painted to the best standard I can achieve. I'm not out to win at all costs and lookiing at the standard of entries, I've got more chance of becoming the next Pope! I don't have the time, inclination nor money to create dioramas just for this competition. So for the single categories, I've taken what I think are my best painted units from my standard wargames armies and entered them, just so to showcase what can be achieved in 10mm.
I hope this makes sense as to my approach to this competition?

I'm with Steve, I thought it was ok to take stands from an army entry and enter them in individual categories.
Or in my case vice versa!
I asked that question to Leon when he posted the rules, and he said it's ok.
Hi all i did not wish to cause any offence so I'll request that Leon takes down my entry in open army. Its just for fun it don't matter to me but someone else feelings are important so take my open army entry down

Yes, that's fine, you can enter the same figures in the Army category, and the individual categories.
As I said, you can do it. However, I can't see the sense on posting many entries on the same cathegory...
The same figures can be posted in any of the smaller categories and then again in the Army one as well, no problem at all. There shouldn't be any duplicates in the smaller base categories, as the genre's don't really overlap at all, unless you entered your Foot in the Single Base category as well?
All of the entries so far have been perfectly acceptable, no worries at all.

Thank you mollinary! Indeed, this year's competition is awesome. I have some favourites... But don't envy the judges...
It would appear that I've messed up one of my entries and linked the same pics twice. In the vehicle category, my 2nd Stug should be images 3 and 4 (instead of 1 and 2 again) If it can be fixed now that I can't edit it I'd be grateful, if not don't worry, I'm sure there are better things that should be getting worked on.

You had minutes to spare, luxury :) ;D
So, 'The Great Raptor Off' begins.
Think your in the lead O Dynas Powys! ;)
The standard this year is again very high, and all on show i would gladly let grace my table. good luck to all who took part.
Mmm, there was some pretty painting there. The horse and musket entries were better than some 25mm I've seen.

If you remember the old Miniwars site Will, its the same fella
I'm also always struck how the lack of interest in the subject matter makes modern stuff a real test of a fine painter. Just as any idiot can make a nude interesting but a teacup challenges art, so anyone can make hoplites or hussars look good, but an SdKfz 222 sorts out the real ones from the dilletanti.
Wot, 2, 000 posts and still just a brigadier? >:(
499 to go FK. ;)
Cheers - Phil (But still congrats !)
Well, I'd better let the inner chatterbox out to play, then.

Please do. We may not
often always agree but your posts are never dull!
How quickly can you do it FK? ;)
What have I been doing, under the impression that 2 k was the magic number?
I imagine those next five hundred will tick by quickly.
:D
Well it's 8.02pm and still no announcement on who has won! I'm not sure if I can bear the suspense much longer...

That's a thing of beauty. If you're looking to sell it, send me a message!
FSN right again :) ;D ;D
Complete change of tack here, but is my mustang the 1st aircraft to be posted in the competition?
I think so. I had planned on putting in the Bristol F2B (or whatever it's called) but ran out of time. Next year fingers crossed :D.
I thought so, thanks for that, And if you did enter an aircraft next year, and i probably will, then it could turn into quite a competition. I wonder if others might join in as well.
