PAYING FOR IT!

Current occupation:
Self employed, Sun Jester covers a variety of aspects in the Heritage/Cultural sectors.

What's the best job you've ever had?
A 2-year contract with the National Trust to set-up, train and mentor a live interpretation company to portray characters from the 1930s - I got to be chauffeured around in a vintage rolls Royce, have a trip up the Thames in a Dunkirk little ship and to meet President Karzai of Afghanistan (whilst wearing my tweeds and plus-fours).

What would your ideal occupation be?
See above, or else run a profitable wargames shop (I can dream!).

GETTING INTO IT!

How did you get involved in wargaming?
When I was 11 my mum saw an ad in the paper for an open day by the local club. As I was getting under her feet she said "Here's the bus fare, go and see what this is all about". I never looked back.....

What was your first figure?
Airfix plastics - I had 1000s long before discovering wargaming.

Do you have a favourite period/genre?
Not really.

How big is your figure collection?
I refuse to answer on the grounds I may incriminate myself (my wife will probably read this!).

And how big is your unpainted lead mountain?
Small enough to worry me.

Do you have a favourite model in your collection? And do you have a pic?
No, all my little metal men matter to me.

What is the most important aspect of wargaming for you?
Having fun with friends.

PLANNING IT

What project are you currently working on?
Rebasing my mid-19th century 15mm armies, some bright spark suggested everyone at the club use the same base sizes as we are now all using the same rules. He has a French army. I have French, Prussian, Bavarian, Austrian and Piedmont!

And do you have any long-term projects on the go?
10mm War of Spanish Succession and 10mm AVBCW.

Do you have any wargaming influences?
I'm easily influenced.... ooh shiny!

BUYING IT!

Do you buy scenery, or scratch build it?
Mainly buy it.

Which figure range is at the top of your request list?
More 10mm stuff for AVBCW.

Which individual item is at the top of your request list?
Armed bobbies for AVBCW.

Which wargaming websites do you visit regularly?
This one. I used to look at PMT but got fed up with all the ****holes.

If someone handed you £100 right now, what would you buy?
It depends what Pendraken are releasing next.

What has been your biggest one-off purchase?
A painted 28mm Late Roman/Dark Age fort by Grand Manner.

PAINTING AND MODELLING IT!

How many hours a week do you paint?
Between 3-10, depending on work commitments and how much time I have in the morning before tea is required upstairs.

What kind of technique do you use?
Slapping paint on with a brush, then a dark wash to hide my mistakes, hoping no-one looks too close.

Do you have a preferred brand of paint?
No, I use most things. I've still got some Citadel and D&D pots from the '70s that get used occasionally.

Do you have a painting area?  And do you have a pic?
Yes:

And have you had any wargaming disasters?
All my disasters are the result of careful planning.

Do you prefer short games or long campaigns?
Either, just so long as I enjoy myself.

Do you have a wargames room?  And do you have a pic?
Sadly no. But I can fit a 6x4 on top of my dining room table.

You wear that suit with a certain flair, sir, if a nudist may express an opinion. :)

TOO MUCH INFO...... :-& ;D ;)

Great insight SJ. Really enjoying the thread Line of Fire. It's beginning to prove the adage that you don't have to be mad to wargame, but a little quirkiness goes a long way!!

Unfortunately what this doesn't capture is the air of absolute certainty that 'Orcs' said "I don't intend to roll a one".

Of course the poodle would cheat.  Look at who would be teaching her. :d
