Title: AND THE WINNERS ARE!
Post by: Leon on 07 March 2011, 06:01:21 PM
Well, the very first Pendraken Painting Competition was a huge success, with a grand total of 196 entries, which meant the Judges had a very difficult task ahead of them.  However, after hours spent locked in a secure complex, they awarded their points, and we have the winners!

As a quick point, regardless of whether you're a winner or not, I hope everyone has had fun during the Competition, and that it motivated you to reduce a bit of your own personal Lead Mountain!

And so, without further ado, the winners are:

Foot Category (72 entries)

This category was dominated by one entry, with a few others competing for second place.

1st place: SYW Hanoverian's, by Derbo
(http://www.tabletopwelt.de/forum/gallery/files/9/8/1/4/pendrakencompetition.jpg)

2nd place: AWI Command, by Cpt Spaulding
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cSsjmt4hBpQ/TWkTkRR6XCI/AAAAAAAAAHs/R7_IPA4kfKo/s1600/DSCN8554.JPG)

Mounted (24 entries)

This category had a clear winner, and then a handful of entries all fighting it out for second!

1st place: Napoleonic French Lancers, by 17-21l

2nd place: Winged Polish, by Enbaji
(http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/6635/pfd5.jpg)

Vehicle Category (31 entries)

This category completely divided the judges, with 11 different entries receiving at least a point, the most of any category.  In the end, we had a good winner, and then second place just managed to scramble over the line ahead of the others!

1st place:  Camouflaged Sherman, by fred12df
(http://www.kerynne.com/games/images/PDComp/ShermanComp.jpg)

2nd place: Sci-Fi Marines APC, by kassad
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5178/5474225854_28b0e18583_b.jpg)

Open Category (69 entries)

This category was entirely dominated by two entries, and the first place entry was the only one in the competition to achieve a maximum 15 points!

1st place: Norse Mammoth, by snafu

2nd place: The Paymaster, by Enbaji

Many thanks for the votes and well done to everybody that entered. The Mammoth will be donated in a display case for the Pendraken stand i think, better there than stuck in a cupboard at home.   :)

Congratulations to the winners and runners up :) and a big thank you to all who entered.

I can say from a judges point of view it was no easy competition to judge.  Over all the standard of painting was very good in deed. You now have a whole year to start thinking about what you will enter next time. :-\

Yea! I'm a winner!

thanks to Lean and Team Pendraken for organising the comp. Well done to everyone who entered the standard was really high, with many inspiring pieces. I particulary like the Paymaster and will be shamelessly stealing that for my Dogs of War army.

This comp makes me want to try the vehicles too - but really my loft can not take any more lead - so maybe a little dable in other areas for next time.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank every single person who entered the Competition.  When you do something like this for the first time, you worry that it won't generate much interest, you'll get a handful of entries, etc.  For people to take the time to paint up nearly 200 entries was outstanding, and the standard of work was excellent.  I hope when people come and look through the threads, they can see just what can be achieved in this scale, and that it tempts them in!

And another competition in 2012 is a certainty!

Congratz to all the Winners!  Very well done indeed.

Congratz to Pendraken, their Crew and the Judges!

And this was awesome, we are all really winners everyone on the forum because we were able to see some amazing painting and conversions done with 10mm minis !!! :o

And we got to see what can be done in 10mm painting wise and hopefully it has sparked everyones interest in painting more, I know it has bumped my level of excitement up a notch or two  :D

Thank you Pendraken for running the comp and looking forward to 2012, hmmm, maybe I should enter a Mayan figure or two since Leon will have them ready before then - nudge, nudge, wink, wink    :-bd

Wouldn't it be a nice idea to have the winner's pictures posted on the site front page, facebook?  Plus some select posting - let's call it subject sensitive - on some other sites with rulesets that accomodate 10 mm?  Thus WW2 tanks on WW2 forums, and so on...

Thinking of BKC, Black Powder, VBCW, and there certainly are a lot more

I think it'd be a powerful statement as to how well 10 mm can look.  The guy from the store here where I live has been trying to get me in FOW 15 mm for years, but I never bit because in order to have two companies plus the books you had to shell out 500 GBP to get started.  When I told him I went for 10 mm his reaction was:"But they're ugly".  No doubt there was some commercial message behind that but still this is a strong proof to the contrary: 10 mm can look sexy.

Congratulations to the winners. Your awards are well deserved.
A big THANK YOU to Pendraken for putting on the competition and all the help in getting our pictures posted up right,(especially you Leon).
Also, the generous prizes,(now that's what I call a carrot).
I look forward to giving it another go next year.

Paint up, and paint well, for love of the craft and the game. :D

I've popped a news story on TMP, and linked the winners thread on The Guild, BKC, WD3.  If there's any others you think should be included, let me know!  I can look at putting them on the Facebook page as well.

Well done every one. Who would have thouht painting 10mm could be such fun? I'd just like to take a moment to thank Mr Lolly pop stick for his support. Painting was a hell of a lot easier.
Now the competition is over its back to quality time with the family.

Just out of interest, I've had a quick browse through the threads, and I can't see anything that say they have to be Pendraken figures, or even 10mm...  :D
(I'm sure someone will find the relevent bit, but if they don't hmmmmm  :-\)

Just showed these to my 13 yo, who said 10mm are easier to paint because the face and hands are just blobs of pink.  What does that say about my painting!

He kept going "Oh My God" at all these.  Think he impressed.  He wants Napoleonic Brits, as he is enjoying BP.
