Yup, any game that needs more than 1 vehicle of the same sort gets played in 10mm, life's too short to paint 10 similar 28mm AC's  ;D ;D ;D

I think those should be deleted from Peter's list.....I mean....If they were produced in black plastic (?)....You would even have to paint them.  ;)

Cheers - Phil  :)

Ha they were in shiny black plastic, so i went ahead and painted them matt black, drybrushed gunmetal on the ridges and teeth etc, then did a black wash, then a violet wash on the 'piping' on their body, and then gloss varnish and a gunmetal drybrush on the base.

The camera does not pick it up, but they have some subtle colour differences.

here you can see the metallic highlights better
(https://i.imgur.com/L8zUCyL.jpg)

and the violet shine is actually more visible when you take a blurry pic, go figure  ;D
(https://i.imgur.com/Be2u7jW.jpg)

Making them so glossy actually makes them quite reflective. Like in the movies where they look blueish and reddish under the different lights in the starships/ buildings.

I can't imagine there's that much of a queue of photographers who WANT to get up close with a camera. Meeting Ms Weaver just isn't enough incentive.

Well, it does keep it fresh. depends how big a lot is really, sometimes it pays to get it all done in one go, sometimes you are better off breaking it up

I'm usually working on several things at the same time
Title: Re: my 2021 painting challenge!
Post by: mmcv on 02 February 2021, 10:01:35 AM
I find if I'm nearing completion on something (or keen to get it on the table) I'll focus on it pretty much exclusively (as I've been the past couple of months with a few bits). But then it's good to mix it up with a few different projects for a while as well (as I'll be doing going forwards for a while).

If I'm seeking inspiration I'll sometimes list out a number of ongoing projects and number them, then let the dice decide. Roll a dice, pick an item to do from whatever came up on the list and paint it up, then roll the dice and do the same again with whatever arises. Keeps things interesting, and also gives you a bit of motivation to do projects that have been lingering at the bottom of the pile for a while and you've not quite been inspired to tackle.

Peter, can you define what you count as a 'model'

Does scale count - ie 0ne 10mm = One 6mm block?
Do cavalry count as two models
How do you class vehicles

a model is a model, a block is one model, a single mini, no matter what size is a model. Cavalry is one model and a vehicle one model as well. So, if it comes as a separate model it is 'a model' (epic 40k models for example are counted as separate models)

They look the business - nice Perry sculpts for GW.

I have a 28mm HoTT army using them as my 'Hordes' - with the GW Balrog as a 'God', a Cave Troll as a 'Behemoth' and some Bat swarms as 'Flyers'.
Generally it is either Fantastically successful (e.g. the Balrog turns up and sticks around killing just about everything) or it is catastrophically unsuccessful (e.g. the Balrog doesn't turn up at all or makes a brief and useless appearance). I think it has only ever won one game without the Balrog. I usually have the Goblin General as a 'Warband General' - but that often turns out to be the Achilles' heel of the army - so I am starting to play him as a 'Horde General' instead.

It is one half of a matched pair of armies - fighting against my Fellowship of the Ring army - consisting of:

Strider (Aragorn) - 'Hero General'
Gandalf - 'Wizard'
Frodo - 'Sneaker'
Boromir - 'Blade'
Gimli - 'Blade
Legolas - 'Bowmen'
Sam, Pippin & Merry - each as a 'Warband'
and finally - Gollum as a 'Lurker'

Both armies are 24 AP each. I'll have to dig them out and post some photos now I am getting the hang of that (to a certain degree)

Yes, the LOTR models are very nice. I have a great deal of armies for that: Rohan, gondor, numenor, high elves, isengard, moria and mordor.

Never played HOTT, but am actually paintng these to put them to use with dragon rampant.

it's actually a gun shield that gets popped up when driving (you know, so they can actually see where they are going)

it's a vickers carden-loyd mkVI with a belgian FRC 47mm cannon  (frc= fonderie royale de canons)  . only 6 were made, nd proved a highly unstable gun platform. Still, they were dug in along the meuse river and were actually used in combat.... but not long :D

http://www.wardrawings.be/WW2/Files/1-Vehicles/Allies/5-Others/03-Belgium/1-TrackedVehicles/Files/VickersMk6-47mmFRC.htm

"They were used by the "Chasseurs ardennais" until 1938, then within two Regiments of Cyclist-Border. They were used in ambush along the Meuse river and made fire the first (close to the city of Visé) on the Germans, May 10, 1940."

Really impressive Belgians.

Can you tell us about the howitzer (or infantry gun) in the photographs Peter?

That was another one made by frc (fonderie royale de canons, wich basically translates to royal cannon foundry).

"The Canon de 76 FRC was a Belgian infantry support gun, produced by the Fonderie Royale des Canons (FRC). The gun was typically of 76 mm calibre; however, an optional 47 mm barrel could be fitted instead. The gun was designed for transport via a trailer towed by a vehicle. In 1940, the Wehrmacht redesignated these as 7.6 cm IG 260(b). At the start of World War II, 198 of these guns had been produced. "

and the anti tank gun is the frc 47 mm model 1931.

"The Royal Cannon Foundry 47mm anti-tank gun Model 1931 (French language: Canon anti-char de 47mm Fonderie Royale de Canons (FRC) Modèle 1931, abbreviated to C.47 F.R.C. Mod.31) was an artillery piece developed in 1931 for the Belgian army which saw widespread service in the Battle of Belgium in 1940. It was colloquially known as the "'Quat'sept" (Forty-seven) by the soldiers that used it. It was developed by the firm F.R.C., the Herstal-based Fonderie Royale des Canons, not to be confused with the French F.R.C. "

"Both infantry and cavalry versions of the gun were produced with minor variations: the cavalry version had pneumatic tires for greater road mobility, while the infantry versions had heavier but more durable full-rubber tires. The gun was also able to be incorporated into fixed defenses and bunkers, including the Belgian fortifications at the Albert Canal. They were also fixed to the T-13 tank destroyer. "

"Several hundred 47 mm guns were captured by the Germans after the battle of Belgium and donated to the Hungarians in 1940-1, to make up for their lack in anti-tank guns during Operation Barbarossa. Their use was limited however due to a lack of spare parts, while the armor penetrating capabilities of these guns had also been surpassed by the Soviet advances in tank construction. Most were relegated to training duties. "

Thanks for that, I've seen a few Belgian lists, but never appreciated that there was an infantry gun.

I hope they perform well on the tabletop.
