Title: Vallejo big pots of dip
Post by: Pruneau on 11 January 2011, 08:36:19 AM
Heya,

Since you have the Vallejo range now: do you offer the big pots called:

Dipping Formula Immersion
Wash / Lavado
Content 200 ml?

I have the 73300 Sepia Shade, and I love how it works, I'm now looking for the black one, coz I don't wanna wash the Germans with Brown :)

I just found the link above of a Spanish maker, but it seems they only have the one colour...

I've not got them at the moment, but I'll check with my supplier and see if they stock those.  Alternatively, I'm hoping to get the Army Painter dips in as well soon.

I have to say Leon after trying it the Army Painter stuff isnt the best on 10mm as it always seemed to me a little too thick ...I have used it thinned down with turps and it works better...Of course I was trying it on MM figures which might make a difference  ;)

Found it OK though better applied with a brush than dipped

I'm applying the vallejo stuff with a brush as well, and the visual result is excellent.  I think the formulation is different from the normal washes, it seems thicker and more viscous.  Of course, it's only a wash, not a wash + varnish.

Is it like the GW Devlan mud or the Black Hat wash?

I'll have a look at them both and see what I can get hold of.

The Army Painter as stated above is very thick and needs Turps/White Spirit for clean up. I must say i was singularly unimpressed with it. It was also very pricey and slow drying. I ended up getting some B&Q own brand Satin Rosewood floor varnish, it ticked all the boxes, cleans up with water, fast drying, and at £9 for a 750ml tin, cheap. I found that it also was too thick straight from the tin so I added 250ml of plain ordinary tap water and gave it a good shake, giving me a full litre of "god wash". A year later I still havent finished it.

I've heard and read a lot about using the floor varnishs, and also Klear polish.  I'll just buy a load and put a Minibits label on them...!

Gordon - that's an eclectic mix of figs. Saw the photo first on my iPhone and thought it was a sci fi battle group - now I've seen it for full size I realise there are multiple periods and scales  #-o

Leon - selling the Klear type product may not be a bad idea - quite a few people seem to struggle to find it in supermarkets.

I'll have a check on it, and how much it'd cost to post.

It's definitely thicker than GW or the Vallejo washes, I'm not familiar with Black Hat.  I like how it flows, It fills cracks, but does not form a hard line, the edges remain blurry.

I got a reply back from Army Painter, they've pointed me in the direction of Warlord Games for distribution.
