Title: Raiden 1:285th Aircraft now available!
Post by: Leon on 07 June 2020, 03:46:26 AM
(http://www.minibits.net/_img/slideshow/Raiden.jpg)

We've hit Day 7 of the '10 Days of Shiny' and we've got a big one from Minibits today!

We are extremely pleased to announce that we are now stocking the full 1:285th Raiden Miniatures aircraft ranges, now owned by I-94 Enterprises in the States.  These extensive ranges cover both WWII and Post War with almost 180 aircraft available in this initial release.  Whilst obviously aimed at the 6mm gamers out there, these may also interest some of our 10mm players as well, giving some options for those Off-Table Support units in Blitzkrieg Commander and Cold War Commander.  15mm Flames of War uses 10mm aircraft so no reason why 10mm BKC can't use 6mm aircraft!

We don't currently stock any flight stands for these but we'll be sourcing some asap and adding them to the site.  I-94 were also waiting on a restock of some codes so we'll be adding those as well over the coming months.

We won't list out the full 178 products, but here's a quick overview of what's available:

WWII - http://www.minibits.net/raiden-aircraft/wwii/
- American
- Dutch
- British
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Russian

Post War - http://www.minibits.net/raiden-aircraft/post-war/
- American
- British
- Canadian
- French
- Russian
- Swedish

Wendy planes ;)

Some of those are very tempting, will have to compare the costs of getting them from the US vs UK  :-\

Those Raiden Spitfires etc are VERY shiny......but I can hear Mrs Shy's voice saying "move along, these are not the miniatures you are after..."  :)

I'm hardly a 'connasewer' of planes....But I remember having a 'Lightning' (Corgi or Dinky ?) in my childhood.

Was the MiG-19 a 'rip-off' of that particular design ? :-\

I think there was just a lot of similar designs at that period - Thunderbird 1.

To whom it may concern...

You've got RAI-GBR018 Westland Whirlwing incorrectly labelled.  It should of course be Westland Whirlwind.

It's a tricky one with the exchange rates fluctuating so much these days, but I think the US would be slightly cheaper for you at the moment, even with the VAT removed from our prices.

I'm going to keep an eye on the rates and adjust the pricing on these as we go.  I've had to pitch them at almost like-for-like initially, it was around $1.20 to the £1 when I bought them, but with the shipping and import fees added on, it cancels out the currency adjustment.

There are some strange entries in this list. The Martin MB5 (which never got into production) or the Boeing P26 and some real oddities in the German WWII section.

I may have to look a some ground attack aircraft for my completed 1944 NW Europe - Typhoons and maybe a P47 or two. Stukas for the Germans in 1940, and then of course I'd have to get Blenheims ... or ... and Battles ... the Hawk could be used for the French, and I've always had a soft spot for the SM79.

Then you could do the Korean War, Viet Nam War and early Arab-Israeli Wars with the post war selection.

I'll put another tab on my spreadsheet. :(

I'm hoping that folks can find a lot of it useful.  The costs of designing and producing aircraft is huge and I don't think it's something we'd be considering for 10mm/1:150th any time soon, so it's good to have an option (albeit 6mm) for folks to consider.  If there's a demand for it, we can pop them on the Pendraken site as well.

As for stands, I still advocate florists wire.

Cheap and effective.

I have obtained 6mm aircraft for my 10mm WW2 but yet to get around to painting them. Virtually every type is available from somewhere and for something that only gets used occasionally they are more cost effective.

Yes, me too. I got a big order a couple of years ago (for a birthday or Christmas's pressie) I've got a fair few painted. As they are small I took the opportunity to make some fairly tall flight stands - about 6" tall, so that the planes are a good distance about the figures.

Just a quick note, I've been looking at the current $/£ exchange rates tonight and I've adjusted some of the pricing on these new Raiden products to make them cheaper, so a £2.95 aircraft has been reduced to £2.50 instead.  Hopefully that makes them a bit more attractive to the European and Aus/NZ customers.

I don't think there'll be many holidays going on in the next few years!  We'd planned to go on a Norwegain cruise next year which would have been our first proper holiday together in 18 years, but we're not as keen on the idea after the Corona outbreak.  Maybe a weekend in an isolated cottage instead...

Yes , I think you may be right there.

There are people in our office that are still planning long haul holidays for this year.  I can't decide if they are optimistic or completely mad.

We were planning to go to California next year, but we are now looking at nice cottages in south wales, found one only 4 miles from Techno. If we book that one  hopefully by then I will be able to meet him for a pint.

I'm sure people will be back on the planes as soon as they can but it doesn't feel at all safe to me.  There's going to be a variety of travel bans in place in certain countries, as we've seen with Greece this past week, so who knows where you could even travel to without restriction.  Holiday cottages in the UK are going to see a huge surge in business and prices will go through the roof as a result.  Hopefully there's a sensible approach to it and the holiday homes keep the pricing reasonable on the understanding that more tourists means more money for everyone in their local economy.

I think 4 miles might be too close to Techno though, you'd be able to hear him shouting at the sheep from across the valley...

Very true, but it might provide some entertainment and I might even learn to swear in welsh !

I hope the prices in the UK do not surge, as may places are already unreasonable eve outside school holidays. Even when my girls were small (youngest is now 21)it was as cheap to go to Europe with Eurocamp than go in the UK. That way we had better chance of good weather and a different culture to experience.

It will also encourage more people to take flights abroad thus increasing the risk of another surge.

Hopefully it's all kept reasonable as it's the only holiday most of us will be getting for the foreseeable.  I suppose we could all buy caravans and go park up in the middle of nowhere instead.

A forlorn hope at best. As with you, we found it cheaper to go camping in western France rather than Cornwall or the Mumbles. Better amenities for the price as well. In the UK you get offered a sloping field with a single toilet/shower block leftover from the war, and you're somehow expected to be grateful for this.

Now there is only the two of us and we are looking for a little more comfort we have found if you want a fortnight its often cheaper to go to the states than Europe

I do curse them, when I can't find them, though....They're very good at hiding behind walls. Sods. ;)

Only got two left now...and they're pretty ancient for sheep....Got to sort out their yearly haircut soon. That's always a joy. X_X

Many aircraft that were too late to see action and those that never made it to a production line can be used if the war continues past 1945.  I've got a whole group of aircraft that come into that area.  It's the death knell of the prop aircraft.

The MB5 was a wonderful aircraft.  Killed off by the turbojet.

Neither, Will.

They get stressed.......and so do we.

At least we don't have to bring them over the road, this year. We'll just have to wait until Dave, (the shearer) arrives and then his dog can drive them into the barn. (She's rather good at that .......Thankfully :))

No.....Once these two have died, we won't get anymore, Nobby.......If we need any of the fields grazed down, we'll borrow some.

Stands - drill a hole in the underside and cut a short peice from a paperclip and superglue into hole. Get an unused cotton bud, and art board or similar glue some more from the paper clip onto the art board cover with filler, after gluing a peice of the cotton bud tube onto the paper clip. Use the cotton wool bits on yet more bases as markers for shell bursts etc. This wont work with B52's or Vulcans.....I have tried

For stands I use these plastic stands from Brigade models.

http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/Accessories/Items/ACC-001.html (http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/Accessories/Items/ACC-001.html)

I glue magnets to the top of the stand and one on the underneath of the aircraft.

I used to do that, but my magnets sheared off after a cold snap.

Mine didn't even need the cold snap to come off the flight stands (they do seem to stay on the aircraft better, perhaps as they can be counter sunk a bit). A tip I found later was to coat the magnet and top of flight stand with PVA to hep seal it all together.

I drill the stand, pin it, drill a hole in the plane, next to the magnet works well.

Post by: fred. on 08 June 2020, 08:04:47 PM
I'm not quite sure I follow, but are you saying, you ignore the magnet, and just use a pin to hold the plane to the stand?
Title: Re: Raiden 1:285th Aircraft now available!
Post by: slugbalancer on 08 June 2020, 10:10:35 PM
I've rarely had a magnet come off of a stand, mostly due to the strength of magnet I use.  The super glue loses the battle.  As the magnet on the aircraft is usually seated in a hole, they tend to stay put.

I find that some of the larger aircraft need two stands/magnets for stability.  One of mine has three stands/magnets.

Post by: fred. on 08 June 2020, 10:19:38 PM
Are your stands metal, or plastic? It is gluing the magnets to plastic stands that I find is the weak point.
