I am totally at a loss for rules to use for the Indian Mutiny in 10mm : any thought or, better still, recommendations would be welcome. Cheers to one and all and keep the curry flowing!
Try some American Civil War rules. Slightly later but alter for taste.
Black Powder are usable. Again alter to suite.
If you enjoy the large skirmish genre then Dan Mersey's "The men who would be kings" (Osprey) are worth a look.

Well I did suggest
Sepoy: Wargames Rules for the Indian Mutiny that has the merit of being designed specifically for the topic and is reviewed here - http://toysoldiersanddiningroombattles.blogspot.com/2011/02/sepoy-wargames-rules-for-indian-mutiny.html
No doubt you have looked at items from a cursory google search, such as:

Thanks guys: something to chew on. In my 50 years or so of wargaming I have always found wargamers the most helpful of people, and it is good to see that things have not changed!
I've always had a hankering to 'do' the Indian Mutiny. Just received the two Mutiny army packs and was also wondering what rules to pursue. Had a rake in the boxes and found an old colonial set 'Battles for Empire (1870-1902)' by Chris Leach. After a quick read through thought they could be easily amended for the Mutiny. Then after checking the figures out decided I wanted to get the wee rascals painted and onto the table quickly - so thinking about 'Men who would be kings'. Does anybody use these for the Mutiny in 10mm? If so, what basing convention do you use? Currently thinking about 3-5 figs per 'stand'. (Still think an amended BfE would be a decent set for battlescale games).
There was talk of Bloody Big Battles producing a set of scenarios to cover India from Wellington through to the Mutiny - not sure what happened to them

Work in progress (by Mark Smith, not me): I believe all the scenarios have been written and have been playtested once or twice; I think a number need further playtesting; after that there would still be front matter to write, etc. In short, yes it's on the way, but no you won't see it for a while yet.
Although I have played some of Mark's scenarios and can therefore report that BBB provides a good game for battles in India, all I can offer you at the moment scenario-wise is on Sikh Wars scenario, Mudki, in the BBB group files:

Those good helpful guys at Caliver Books tell me that "Sepoy" is long out of print and not available and recommend "Mad Dogs and Englishmen": is anyone familiar with them? I am now wondering when my Indian Mutiny figures will arrive (like so many others at the
moment, terminal boredom is setting in) but I suspect that Chateau Pendraken is like a One Armed Paperhangers Convention at the moment: how are the face masks going on?
I am also looking for a set of rules for Indian Mutiny - it is quite a struggle!
Looked at Black Powder, Principles of War, Devils Wind, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Sharp Practice, adapting Death in the Dark Continent - trying to find John Company, but can't get a copy for love nor money!
I have Mad Dogs and Englishmen, but they really don't do it for me - I thought it was a very slim set of rules for the money with too many ambiguities.
As it stands, will probably end up using Black Powder or Principles of War.....though an adaption of BBB sounds good to me as well!

We use a heavily modified version of regimental fire & fury for Napoleonics and colonials, the new version has some much more varied outcomes in the D10 manouvre roll and in the melee outcomes.
Mark
I tested a home brew combination of various Volley & Bayonet Colonial variants reasonably successfully :)
It really depends what level of battles you are looking to fight :-\

Just had a quick search for John Company and the TVAG site comes up with a $20 pdf version, $30 B&W and $15 colour supplement - http://www.thevirtualarmchairgeneral.com/079-rules.html#John%20Company

Excellent GrumpyOldMan - I shall order those...not sure how i missed them (doh)...!
PaulR - I would be interested in seeing what you have done with Volley and Bayonet for the Mutiny (and frankly, any other Colonial period) - I am a big fan of the system.
PM sent, I've also done something similar for Sudan that I could send as well
