Any suggestions on what I can do to show boats for landing parties? The ships are about an inch long.

For ships boats i would suggest using a half ship sized base and glue on 2 or 3 small boat shapes cut out of card suitably painted (perhaps a light brown)
They look great en masse, giving that feeling of a big fleet action 8).
