Setting up a game tonight. After all this I needed a sit down with a G&T - proving I would be no use on a battlefield

Looking good - I look forward to reading about how it turned out.
Very nice and looking forward to more in action pics :).
Looks brilliant
Nice looking game.
Really like that. By chance I picked up the 1866 rules last week.

Old age kid ;)
Tell me about it ! :'(
Cheers - Phil ;)
I played the game out solo over several days using a very heavily amended version of Black Powder rules. I wanted to get a few things into the game on the basis of the accounts of this part of the battle I have read and the very good wargaming scenarios that are available.
- The firepower of the needle gun
- The Austrian assault tactics
- Sensitivity of the Saxons to losses
- The better command and control of the Prussian
- Effective use of artillery by the Austrians
The game played out well and I was pleased with the way the rules worked out. Perhaps a flaw in my version was too short a number of turns to allow the Prussians to properly cross the terrain and get organised for an attack on Problus ridge which was their main objective.
This was despite the fact that I allowed one of their three divisions to deploy ( a-historically I think) at the village of Popowitz further along the stream from the main crossing point at Nechanitz - where there was still a huge bottleneck.
Under the rules used the Austrian- Saxon army broke before the Problus ridge had been fully stormed but it was a clear Prussian win. The Austrians deployed to attack the Prussians on the Hradek ridge and despite suffering heavy loses did better than might have been expected largely due to some cover from fire afforded by the woods.
Anyway, I will try to post a few pictures below but only seem to be able to do one at a time and the resolution is pretty poor

Austrian VIII Corps massing to assault Hradek ridge. One Brigade is already at the top.

Hmmmm here he is I hope....
Lovely 'photos Marty 8).

Great to see a massed game :)
Very cool Marty.
Looks great. This is one of my favourite scenarios, and it is a great part of the battlefield to visit, as it is still possible to work out the progress of the various units on the ground.
Looks good! :-bd
Very good. The terrain is a pretty good representation of the actual ground.
What size is the board please?
It's 140cm by 160cm
Good shpw!
Lovely stuff, Morty. :-bd
