First Berserkir, Ulfhednar, Shieldmaidens, and wannabe bad boys. Note Ragnar Redbeard, 2nd in command of the entire army.

And the first Huscarls, with Viljar Vandrikkar and the raven banner.

Lee's had her "Road to Damascus" moment with cats; I think we'd have ten by now if I didn't (reluctantly) apply the brakes.

Thanks for friendly comments, all. The Kallistra figures are big, and the Pendraken fantasy ones bloody huge, but I think I like the range of sizes, as one who is a head taller than most people he passes in the street.

Do I know what you mean, Alexander. X_X

Von's still trying to chip my resolve away, regarding having more cats.

Cheers - Phil

An admirable woman, Von, and one for whom I have deep respect.

But you dont have cats, they just inhabit the same building - occasionally. Vikings burn the place down !!

Actually, a Viking home wasn't considered complete without a basket of kittens. Like most country folk, they appreciated a way of controlling mousies, and like most Scandanavians, valued something warm to cuddle on a cold night (so I'm told - no personal experience).

PAH !

I've still got my 'Ace in the hole' that I know she'd never agree to.

If we have more cats.....I'm demanding MY choice of a pet, first...It's definitely my turn to choose. I want a Taranshula (sic). ;)

Cheers - Phil :)

Like' em (and you've given me an idea).

The kitties on the bed are forming a pilcrow (upside down from the viewing angle). Is this learned behavior?

Not entirely complete yet; I want a Leven watchtower at the gate, a thatched building centrally, a few of those new Oirish axemen at the gate too, some dogs guarding the livestock, and an anchor, coil of rope, and a kitty on the deck.

Note the gate is being manned by Harald, son of Njarl, who killed the brother of Egil the berserker who wrote the riddle Why did the raven cross the Atlantic? to the orders of Skarp-Hedin Half-troll, who took to wife Ifredis Gunnarsdottir, sister of the shieldmaiden Halgerd, who slew Ragnar and his brother Ulla at the battle of the Stone Bridge, where the Danes were commanded by Fill Hole-Hand, who later rescued Von the Patient from Mac the Mad Sheep the father of Olga Woolyhead and Erik Bluetooth, uncle-in-law Harald the Short, that wedded Anja, star of Shieldmaidens in the Sauna, now on BlueRay....

Note the remains of the locals who opposed the landing (upstream).

Didn't Anja star in Buxom Beauties in the Banya?

Vikings do not do well against cavalry armies with Greek fire in support!

We had good omens, in fact, and I can't complain about my dice either. But I suspect only an ambush will allow victory against the Romans.

The turned flank doesn't mean much; they're only horse archers (though they shot us up a bit).

A few cases of our failure to break the enemy line. Our one success of note was the Cuman panic as the tried to withdraw.

My berserkir pushed back their turncoat brothers of the Varangian guard, but it wasn't enough.

The camp has been upgraded: note dogs looking after the livestock, axemen at the gate, and the longhouse and watchtower.

Those trapezetoi LC tide me down for ages, until the Varangians were ready to wallop that unit.   :(
Title: Re: Children of Odin
Post by: FierceKitty on 30 December 2019, 04:50:58 AM
That unit of skutatoi held on far too long. Here you note impatient Norsemen finally finishing them off with a three-sided overkill. Below that, a unit of bondi caught between Varangians and trapezetoi.
