I have been sort of commissioned, for lack of a better term, to do two dioramas, but there is no fee involved as it is a project of true friendship. Both are for my author friend Nick, with scenes taken from his very popular Extinction Cycle series. One I am doing, a smaller one than the first I did. The second is a joint effort with a very dear friend of Nick's. On this one I will be doing the actual model, and Nathan will be doing the electronics - this one takes place aboard a naval vessel, and is set in an autopsy/lab. The fun part of this one is that in the story one of the researchers is Nathan by name, and he is about to be melted by the acid from inside the Variant (post apocalyptic creature). Yeah a bit yucky, but I'm depicting it prior to the actual melt down, or really just as it started with smoke rising from the point of contact. Not one for doing gory stuff at all. Anyway, in the book a siren sounds and a warning light starts flashing, so we'll have those features as working devices, but don't ask me how because my expertise with electricity starts with being able to operate most light switches and ends with a general knowledge of changing a light bulb!!!! That is Nathan's area of expertise! he's already started building the control board and sent me a picture, and it looks like very high techy type stuff to me with little do-dads here and there and some wires????? Oh, and the variant in the Nathan dio is a Pendraken alien that is working perfectly as the specimen they were doing the autopsy on is a juvenile and only 4 feet tall. Don't be put off about it being a juvenile as they are more advanced than the first wave of Variants and are extremely deadly!
So far I have cleaned the figures, made the necessary conversions and just primed them a few minutes ago. I'll take a picture in the AM and will also start painting them. I'll try to keep a running progress report as it advances, and again, Nick is not aware of these, so it will be fun to surprise him.
More soon,
Terry
Lotsa pix are implicitly promised here, am I right?
Sounds interesting, really looking forward to seeing these develop :) :) :)
Here are the pictures of the figures for the two dioramas. The first two are for Nick and will depict the two main characters facing a horde of Variants coming at them after crashing through a store front window. The Alpha/leader is called The Bone Collector due to his wearing skeleton bones. they look pretty rough right now, but hopefully they'll look better after they are painted.

These figures are for the joint effort diorama with Nathan. The figure for Nathan is not shown as I cannot pose him until I get Lucy placed on hte autopsy table, so he'll be done later.

Have made some progress. Not overly pleased with the Variants, but am not sure fiddling with them further will add anything, so for now, I am taking a break from them.

Shading and detailing will lift the Variants, taking a break from them makes a lot of sense :)
Very nice
Coming along nicely, Terry. :)
It's always great to see how figures progress, 'Stage by stage'.

Cool!
Sorry I've not been posting, and can only say that my time is not my own of late, being busy closing out the TN State Cowboy Shooting Match - which I finally put to bed Yesterday. And also, the HOTT International tournament I run, which is still active. And, being honest wanted to wait until my new prescription glasses came in so I could do a better job modeling and painting. They are here so am hoping to get back to spreading some paint again!!!
Terry
Sounds like you have been keeping pretty busy ;)
Finally resolved my issue with photobucket so am able to post some pictures of the finished figures for these two dioramas. I'm starting the building parts now and will post pictures soon when there is enough to share.

OK, starting to get back in the hobby mood, and am now working on these two dioramas again. I have cut the templates for both, but am not pleased with the autopsy ones, so am going to redo them before I cut the wood for real. I make he templates out of cardboard, which allows me to see how it might look - very helpful, worth the time for sure and saves on real material costs. I'll try for some pictures tomorrow or the next day to share.
Terry
:-bd
Cool
Here are a few pictures of the early stages of these projects. The walls are all just the cardboard templates but since i took here I have cut the actual wood pieces and will start assembling the actual walls and share updated pictures shortly.
The ship board autopsy. The figure is just to give an idea of scale . I think the windows are too big, so am going to make them lower in height.

Glad you are back at it, Terry. Appreciate your comment about getting back into hobby mood. I've spent the last several weeks reading one space opera after another and working on almost nothing. Incidentally, as I refuse to disable my ad-blocker I am required to view your photos through the photobucket watermark. Still, I can certainly see enough to follow your work. :) :-bd
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words all. The watermark on my photos was a Photobucket problem. After I saw that I contacted them and it is fixed now so you should be able to see the pictures clearly now.
Bill - space operas huh!!!! Need to get you back into HOTT, great rules for space games. I have several armies for that genre. A British one for War of fe Worlds, an alien one based on Hollywood movies, and a Green Man army form John Carter. The GBnUIT theme was alien invasions a couple of years back. here's my British Defense Force to combat the martians.

Progress is slow, as there are no instructions with a project like this - it's all in my head....and that is a dangerous thing because it can get lost in all that empty space! I have been working a little each days so here's some new pics. I've done more since as I took these before I started working today. The smaller one is further along as the larger one is more involved since it is going to have working lights and sound.

Interested to see results, as these look great thusly.
More work done on both. For the small one nearly finished with the basic building front and the larger one have started cutting the windows - which kill my fingers pushing down trying to cut through the bass wood that thick with a single edge razor blade!
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF2923.JPG) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/p/fa0d6a02-3520-4640-adfe-0e96d55ab8d0)
This is the front of the building laying flat as the store sign (the darker piece of wood) is not glued on and will be done after all painting is done. The two cardboard pieces at the top are just stuck there to represent where two windows will go - they will both be the same size though. The wood part of the storefront will be a nice medium bright green with the window and door trim being white. The sign will be white too with darker green lettering and border. I am looking at how to do the wall part above the sign and around the windows as brick, but will need to do it in a different way than the first diorama. But, I've got a thought there and will see how it might look.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF2924.JPG) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/p/4d4449df-c075-4a91-9ae4-7126448be3f6)
This is the ship board autopsy scene from the same book series - "Extinction Cycle". It is actually way more involved, so will take longer and more careful thinking to do. It will be wired so the klaxon will sound and the warning light will blink on and off.
More to follow,
Terry

That looks great
Now it's starting to look like a building front. Yesterday I installed the second story window frames, made the brick and laid it. So now basically the front of the building is done. Once I have made the side walls I'll start painting it. I'm also ordering the custom decals for the sign, the main window and the little transom window above the door.

No updates on the models as I've been doing some home repair, but back at these tomorrow. However, thought I'd share a picture of my study and how it looks when I do a project like this. I have to admit, I do have a very understanding wife who accepts the need and doesn't fuss about it!!! For the last one my study stayed like this for 3 months and these two may even exceed that!!!

If you were in New Zealand those Snoopies would be expected to be in your front window
Someone came up with the idea of putting teddy bears in you window so young kids could do a teddy bear hunt while on their walks for exercise
I've spotted some interesting 'teddy bears' on my limited walks :)
Making more progress with the basic building structure done on all sides, the custom decals ordered and the interior back view selected and cut out. Plan to start basic painting tomorrow on the parts inside that well be hard to get to once assembled

Can't wait to see these finished!
No picture tonight, as I just finished the touch ups and second coats so will start weathering and aging tomorrow. Except for the big window crashing out and maybe the door knocked off it's hinges and a few bullet holes, this will not be a devastated building. I also looked at how he figures will be arranged and that as fun. Still not sure if I want to use eh Humvee or not, but if not will need something to help fill the large open area to the left. Any suggestions. Remember, the city is not battle destroyed like he previous diorama, it is just abandoned to the variants, so dirty and dusty, with some trash all around.
On he other one, I have decided to only do the one window, so will have a removable roof so you can see all the detail. That one will be unique in that due to the wiring for eh light and sound it cannot be slid out to see better.
I'll try for some pictures tomorrow.
Terry
Excellent :)......(The pics above...and the thought of MORE piccies.)
Huzzah !
Cheers - Phil
Here's a picture I took this morning before starting the aging and weathering process. The two figures of Reed and Horn had enough glue on their feet from the painting sticks that they were able to stand by themselves, so you can see them in front of the store front,

The weathering has been started, but I know there's not much to see. I had to get an idea of how it might look, so here it is with a few of eh figures of the variants leaning against the walls - this is not necessarily their final position. The leading the charge variant will actually be in mid air after having just crashed through the large window.

Getting close to the final weathering and then to install the glass, and break out the big window. All of the decals have been applied and you can see how the sign will look in these pictures. Still have to make the door too.

I am going to leave off the Humvee, but am looking at adding a third marine, a character named Fitz. He lost both his legs in Afghanistan I think but fights wearing blades. I can make the figure easy enough, but I have to figure out how to include a pin on he bottom of one of the blade so I can secure him ot the street - I'm working on it!

Is the bit of wood just something in the background? It's causing a strange optical illusion.
Fred,
The blond colored piece of wood is just holding the plastic case at an angle so the unglued pieces will stay in place for the picture. It is not part of the diorama. I believe that is what you are asking. The diorama is being built to go inside a plastic case made for keeping an autographed baseball, so it's a square case. It could be the top section of the case, which is clear that you are seeing too as it is coming toward the camera. Each half of the case is U shaped. Hope that answers your question.
Terry
Have been working on weathering the front as it is supposed to have at least been abandoned for some length of time due to the virus outbreak that created the variants. Also started working on other little bits to go into it. Here is is so far, and I know not a great picture but there wasn't much light available at midnight when I took it. (note the door is sitting in backwards!!!)
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF3015.JPG?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/p/5517a32b-db8b-4d12-84f5-c5cd1e7126a3)
Today I will start installing the windows for sure, and making the wires to hold the variants in place. I'll also finish he door and hopefully get the street markings done.
Until next update,
Terry

Friends, work progresses, ever so slowly, but it is getting to a point where it will be very exciting if the shattering of the glass window works out. I have installed the wire pegs to mount the figures on and also have started installing the shattered window glass.. All other windows are installed, the door is finished and just needs a coat of paint. I have also started toe conversion to make Fitz as one of the Marines. He was injured during a tour losing both his legs, so he is on blades, but I think I have that worked out just fine, and he'll be good to add to the street to avoid any large open areas. He'll be far to the left of Reed. Sorry no pictures, but should have some soon.
More soon,
Terry
Looking forward to seeing some more piccies !
Cheers - Phil :)
Here are a couple of photos of the progress so far. Still need to paint the door, and it will be flung open by the "Bone Collector" (the variant chief). So far I am very pleased with how it's looking and am starting to close in on finishing it and then I'll devote myself to the other one.

Wow! This is looking really good!
Really nice!
Glued the sign on the front, started on the awning and finished creating Fitz with his blades for legs, and have him primed to paint, along with the door. After that I will glue the two guys crashing through the windows so I can see where to place the other variants and then figure out where to place Reed, Horn and Fitz. Also, probably going to add their puppy, who if I remember right was called Apollo - a German shepard.
Terry
PS - re the awning I will only attach the frame for now and near the end add the canvas covering, which when dry I will distress and tear in places.
Great work Terry!

Wasn't quite sure how the glass was going to look/work, but you've absolutely nailed it =D>
Fabulous job :-bd
Looking great Terry!
Really great idea to have the glass shattering and very well executed too!
Thank you gentlemen. There are still some glass shards to be added but they will come in later when I can add the sidewalk part of the base and the street. Need to figure the placement of the remaining variants and drill holes for their wire pegs to fit through and then can attach the bases.

The shattered glass gives a real sense of motion :-bd
Wow!
That really is the bees knees, Terry !
Cracking work ! :-bd

Looking great!
I was able to get a couple of pictures, so here's where it stands for now.
The final assembly will be a bit of a challenge due to needing to have pins sticking through the base to hold the Marine figures. I have glued the variants with extra amounts of super glue so hope they hold in transit. They would be the most difficult to replace. If the Marines come loose, they would be less of a problem. I may try to put some padding around them that will have to be carefully removed.
The three marks you see in the sidewalk are for adding some additional glass shards, plus there will be lots of small piece of glass laying around too. I also plan to add some kind of little street sign to the far right. The once everything is glued into place I'll add some trash and dirt and grim since the city has been abandoned for so long. That's why Maria's is so grungy looking.

Really coming together!
I know I am quite for spells at a time, but the first dio has gotten to a point where I am doing the final details and assembly so it's not much to see. Once I get most of it assembled I'll share some updated pics. One thing I am going to do tomorrow is replace the original pins I put in for the Marines in the street. There is juts not enough to clue them too and have hem survive the trip. So, I am going to add longer pins, flatten hem and drill all the way up through the foot and bend it over and try to hide it with thick paint. Hopefully that will keep them from breaking loose in transit. Having to do a little backpedaling for this.
More soon,
Terry
Take your time Terry, does us good to wait ;)
It's coming toward the end!!! All the figures have been placed except for the Bone Collector and he goes in during the final assembly. Also the little street sign will too, as well as the additional pieces of flying glass. and the door. But you can start to see what it's going to look like.

Brilliant!
Continued thanks for you kind comments and support. I continue to work on it, ever so slowly it seems, btu I am really down to final assembly and details. Need to add a little rust to eh street sign, spray the gloss coat and put on the decals and then hit it with some flat and it's ready.
I have made and attached he frame for the awning, and have made the template for the awning, so that part will be ready to go, but will also probably be one of the last parts done. Also, broke off some of the shattered glass, which has been an on going problem, so had to fix that. Needless to say, that shattered glass part is very delicate.

Cracking work Terry 8).
Brilliant, must take a lot of patience to position the broken glass
Great work. It's really coming together.
Thank you for the continued kind comments. A project like this is slow going, The shattered glass has been a real pain actually as it keeps breaking lose where it's glued. I probably need a different glue, one for plastic models, so am going to get some and add some to hopefully keep it from popping loose.
Terry
Splendid work Terry!
Excellent, Terry. The animation is nothing short of spectacular.
Know it's been awhile since I last posted about this project, but have been slowly working on it. Finally got the awning on and that was a challenge for sure. But I'm pleased with it. In these photos it only has the base coat, which in person shows as a very different shade of green from the wood on the building. I will e weathering it and making a tear of two in it and then do the final assembly and add the final grunge and trash

Well done Terry! =D> =D> =D>
Stunning work Terry 8).
Brilliant, Terry ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Wow Terry!! That is awesome.
The attention to detail you have and the work done to execute that is most impressive - and this is on top of the creative thoughts to conceive the diorama.
Thank you all for the kind comments. It was a fun model to do. The inspiration came from Nick's books/story, and the challenge of creating variants crashing through the store front window was too appealing.
Now it's on to complete the second one. The main walls are all cut, and the window created, but it's got challenges of it's own - mainly creating an autopsy lab on board a US naval ship. So no aging or trashing on this one, but Nathan, close friend of Nick will be adding sound and lights - a klaxon and a flashing red light. This too will be taken from one of the Extinction Cycle books - the scene where Nick kills off Nathan as a character in the story.
More soon,
Terry

I know I've been more than quiet for awhile, but that has been due to a serious medical situation for my wife. For now all seems well and she is recovering nicely, but is not there yet. In any event, it sort of took away my desire to do any modeling, and I am just now getting back into it - but slowly.
First off, while going through the above mentioned trial, I did a serious rethink of the second dio and have done a major rewrite of the plan. I never was happy with the long, large window so have done away with that, and turns out that was a good thing. In re-reading the chapters on the source for the dio I had missed a few important aspects, and am now including them. One being an office are just outside the operating room. Here's a picture of the new layout and you can see the lockers that will be installed in the little office area outside the operating room. In the corner will be a built in desk (standard being built in for most offices on a ship) which will have a PC some books, stacks of papers, etc. on it. I've also figured out how to run the wire for the light to blink and started that assembly today. I also figured and created the way to fasten everything to the electronics base.

In addition, after Nick received the last one, Maria's Kitchen, he has asked me if I'd make him another one. Of course I'm happy to do so and we settled upon one based on the opening chapters in his "Hell Divers Book IV Wolves". X and Mags are aboard a civilian, yet militarized, catamaran in a storm tossed sea of the post apocalyptic Earth. This is really going to be fun with all sorts of new challenges. I've found a larger case so I can make more to the boat, and am now trying to find what I need to make a true sea creature based on the description in the book - but think giant octopus and the Disney movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", This will also be a 15 MM dio. These may give you some ideas of what I am pursuing.

And good to see you getting back to the dioramas, also great that Nick enjoyed the last one so much that he asked for another :-bd :-bd
I echo Paul's comments :).
Looking forward to seeing this progress and glad to hear your wife is on the mend
Definitely 'fourthed'.
Stay well, yourself, Terry !
All the best - Phil :)
Impressive Terry.
Hope Mrs T is okay.
I know the progress seems slow....and it is. But, please consider just about each piece is hand made, and it takes time. Plus I have to figure out the sequence and engineering at times. But these pictures will give a little better idea of how the office area is going to look. I still need to add the wall lamp fixture, but that won't go in until the walls are painted. I also plan to have a framed painting of a hospital ship hanging above the desk. There are also quite a few pieces that I've made that are not pictured, such as doors and items ot go on the desk. I did turn the four legged chair into a swivel chair and add some padding that I think it would have. This will let you see how I have run the wiring for the alarm light. The strip of balsa along the back wall in the operating theater is just to give and idea of the work area and cabinets that will go back there.

I am planning on the walls to be a cream-white color and the doors to be a soft green color. The floor will be a teal color. These are based on pictures of actual ship board operating room photos I've been studying.
Terry
Coming along well, lots of fiddly details on this one but going to look great with it all comes together
Looks amazing so far
Both comments seconded :-bd =D> :-bd =D>

Fourthed and all that :D!
Pleased to see your update Terry, enjoy watching you work.
I have been working on this, but it's all in little bits to go inside, chairs, cabinets, doors, operating light, etc., so nothing to really photograph, but I'll see if I can do some kind of picture. Oh, and after seeing where hte desk is I have decided to reverse the second door into the operating theater - so it will now be up by the door facing the front, and the observation window will be at hte back across from the desk. Other wise the doors into the operating theater wouldn't have ahd room to open properly, since I was not able to fit a sliding door in.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Pictures soon,
Terry
Good to hear progress continues :)
Merry Christmas to you Terry <:-P
Cool
Finally had a chance to take a picture of some of the little bits I'm working on. To give you an idea of size, the PC screen is only about 3-4 MM big. They look a little crude, but hopefully when it's all put together they look OK. The large white thing is the light that goes over the autopsy table (which is on the left). The PC CPU is not slanted, it's just sitting on some old dried glue as I reuse my painting sticks.

Wow that's some intricate work! It's all looking great, look forward to seeing it put together with the building :-bd
I continue to work on the project, but this one is going to require a lot of itty-bitty bits, and not being a post apocalyptic scene I can't hide goofs with destruction!!!l Anyway, got to a point where I could pose Nathan being dissolved by the variant's acid and with this done I can now paint him. I also have to change Ronnie's suit from green to the blue as I found reading several further chapters ahead they all wore blue (I actually read the full series a couple of years ago, but keep reading for the umpteenth time the specific sections that deal with this scene.. However, I may put Nathan in white???? It's hard to see in these pictures, but there are cabinets under he counter top in the operating theater. The counter top is just a paper cut-out for now, but will be a little thicker and about that size. Lucy's right arm (she's the adolescent variant) has been moved so it connects to Nathans hand. I really like accuracy, but I can tell you that I have had to make some literary changes to make hte model work better - just in case any of you read the books and say "Hey, wait a minute", trust me, I already know.

Great to see this progressing :)
Good stuff
Coming along nicely, Terry !
Cheers - Phil :)
Nice progress!
Going to be fabulous.
Nice to see an update on this project :) :).
He's alive! Yes, I am, and also know I've been very quiet of late. Just been busy and not having as much hobby time as I'd like. I have done more work on the second dio, and will try for some new pictures soon. But, Nick has asked me to do one for him, so I have had to start it to as I can't let him know about this one, so working on both. I'll share pictures of it too, but it's one form his 4th book titled "Hell Divers Wolves". This short clip will give you and idea.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAz1N8YmHa0
Lot's of new challenges - a high-tech catamaran, a big sea monster and a stormy sea!!!! That should all be easy enough.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF3954.JPG?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/a/6e5564bc-573f-47e1-a5ea-78dcf81fae1f/p/96103626-5fca-41b2-8cd8-9a0f87bee717)
I'm not happy with the creature figure as it hard rubber and the tentacles bend. I'm afraid the paint won't adhere well or will flake off. Think of the old Airfix figures.
Pray everyone is avoiding he virus, getting the vaccine shots and doing well,
Terry
PS - We also adopted a third bunny that was about to be dumped out. She's a real sweet baby and is the youngest we've ever had, so she doesn't mind being held. We're praying she doesn't outgrow it. Her name is Gracie and she's an American Blue breed. Now to bond all three!!!

I try my best not to think of old Airfix figures.
Love the bunny.
Great to hear from you Terry and good to know Nick likes your dioramas enough to ask for one :) :)

Know exactly what you mean about the old Airfix, but fought many a battle with them.

Yep, still kicking. Have had eye/vision problems so anything involving detail was pretty much on hold. Had a laser surgery and things are improving. Trust me old age is not free - it's earned!!!
I have made some progress on both projects. First the secret dio has had some painting done and i am laying the floor in and will start adding the furniture, etc.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF4266.JPG?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/a/6e5564bc-573f-47e1-a5ea-78dcf81fae1f/p/b79d45a7-938a-440b-a36b-6f4757eb2b91)
I tried taking this with all the walls in place, but they kept falling over. Once the floor is in I'll start furnishing the office, and do the operating theater last.
And here's an update on the Hell Divers book 4 Sea Wolf dio.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF4283.JPG?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/a/6e5564bc-573f-47e1-a5ea-78dcf81fae1f/p/2d831147-0acb-430a-86b1-d293f3960561)

(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF4280.JPG?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/a/6e5564bc-573f-47e1-a5ea-78dcf81fae1f/p/d55bf73c-ed0d-4608-acb1-3c251eb8143c)
This is the basic color scheme and finally covers all the patches and pieces. There will be a sliding hatch in the closed position over he opening in the upper cabin. The main deck still needs the decking stained, so you can not really see the decking planks very well. The decking is so thin I have to figure a way to keep it form warping when I stain it. Maybe stain it and cover with a wax paper with a weight on top. The hole and notch you see are for the radome and a short bowsprit.
I also started he sea monster, and he is going to add some color to a very bleak view with his orange upper body.
(https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/hh235/terry37photos/DSCF4154.JPG?width=960&height=720&fit=bounds) (https://app.photobucket.com/u/terry37photos/a/6e5564bc-573f-47e1-a5ea-78dcf81fae1f/p/5c28cc51-8109-434b-949a-fa576f76a85d)
Most of the finished little bits and people are done and just need to be installed. Once I see how much room is left in the secret project I'll add additional little details. I also need to convert a puppy figure to look like a husky, who will be looking out from the upper cabin hatch (the sliding top hatch will be closed, but the vertical doors will be open.. This is not as told in the story, but Nick wanted him in the dio. As a sailor of days past, this has been a very challenging project in trying to make a true working boat and meeting the description in he book. I finally gave up and am going with a true working boat, but in the vain of the book.

Hi Terry
Great to see you back - and good to hear that your surgery has been successful
Really liking the look of the boat and the sea monster - looks very promising!
Great to hear from you again Terry and nice work as always 8).

Useless info for the week: a Thai idiom translates as "His dove won't coo". It means his wife or girlfriend is rather frustrated, if I may put it that way.
These are NOT doves, Alexander......These are flying rats.....and they're getting a bit peed off, ( :-bd) 'cos i won't throw wild bird seed....sunflower hearts...and mealworms, down on the ground, for them to scoff, to their hearts' content
There are still over two dozen that sit on the roof...waiting for me to feed the 'real' wild birds. (See..I'm messing with nature...trying to put my own stamp on the environment)
They'll give up eventually..or die of lead poisoning (through the brain) ;)
Cheers - The Sniper. :D

Yep, still alive and kicking!!! Have slowly been making progress and thought I would share some updated photos. Since just about everything is hand made it goes slow - and even slower when it takes you several times to create a satisfactory piece. For example, the operating table took five attempts before I got one I liked, and the Venetian blinds in he window two tries.

Glad to hear you're making everything yourself. I follow a number of Youtube "crafting" channels, and far too many have gone over to "I 3d printed this <doodah>", when before they'd have made something themselves, for my liking.
Great progress

More progress made on both projects, but the most is on he first one, the Variant Autopsy, so only new pictures of it. I believe all of the furniture pieces have been made, except for a small table for he operating room holding medical instruments. I am also working on he over-head cabinets and a wall mounted coat rack for the office that I am planning to make a white medical coat to put on it. Going to try using a single ply of Kleenex for that. I was successful making a bandanna for another little project, which I'll post in a separate thread. The operating light is just temporarily glued to the popsicle stick, but I need to see how much room I had. It will be a little lower when finally put in place. You can see the oxygen tank between the sink and hte refrigerator.

Thought I would post a couple of update photos, as it is closing in to being finished. I am working on a medical coat using a single ply of a Kleenex that will hang on the coat rack in the office section, some books for the work area, and a few other little bits. Then I just need to add the figures and put the smoke coming from the Variant and Yokoyama's arm and helmet. In the story he gets melted by acid from the Variant's body! Add the electrical wiring for the flashing red light and put the metal guard around that and mail it off.

This looks like a super fun build Terry. Cant wait to see it finished!
Some more work done and I am actually nearing the end. I am starting to run all the piping that seems a requirement on a naval ship. There are more besides he ones I am showing, but they still need painting. I have to say that the one showing the lab coat hanging on the rack shows terrible brush marks, etc. It doesn't look like that to the naked eye, but the picture is a very close-up picture as the coat is only about 5/8th of an inch in size. That was a fun challenge, and I made it fomr a single ply of a Kleenex.

Impressive work on the lab coat :-bd
When you consider how many hundreds of disgruntled sailors got to repaint that wall over the years I don't think the brush work turned out too bad ;)

Yep, I'm still kicking, just seem to have more needs and less time to do everything in...and I thought I was busy before I retired!!! Anyway, this 2nd project is about to near the end. Here's a picture of the details in the surgical room and the figures are now glued in place, and since I took the picture, the inner office walls are also glued in place. Lucy will be toward the very last on he surgical table.

Re the brush marks, Yes, I am afraid that with white that is very hard for me to avoid. But they don't really show to the naked eye. Also he lab coat is only 1/2 inch tall, if that so that picture is highly magnified. I would have gone with another color for the walls, but the model being so small I felt white was the better choice.
Terry
Great work Terry. I thought it was a real picture when I saw the thumbnail version.

Gentlemen, The secret project for Nick is nearing completion. Here are a few pictures to share it's current status. You can see the decontamination door installed, the decontamination sprinklers installed and the roof under construction. I am now testing multiple methods of doing smoke that will be coming from Lucy, he Variant and Nathan. I am using pulled cotton, but am wanting to make it more of a brown color so that's the problem as so far it makes it lose the vapor look.

I want thank all of you for your encouragement and kind comments along the way. I technically started this just over a year ago, and can tell you at times it got to be old! But I am pleased enough with the finished model to send it on I just hope Nathan and Nick will like it.
By the way the guy in the white Hazmat suit is Nathan. Or should I say TOAST, as he is being dissolved by the acid inside the Variant!!!! He told Nick than since he had to go he wanted it to be very rough....and I think Nick more than accomplished that!
