Title: German Flamethrower Char B1 for Arnhem
Post by: Heedless Horseman on 03 October 2019, 02:38:31 AM
Posted a similar enquiry before...but a German use Char B1 Flamethrower vehicle would be desirable for Arnhem and would not entail much conversion work. I am not sure about  GR27 Pz Char B1...I assume it is the standard gun armed tank but no photo...anyone advise?

This is quite a specialised vehicle as only 50 were converted. I suspect it is not commercially viable.  Probably best to convert your own

Probably the same answer Hauptmann Funkelmann was given sixty years ago or so.

I was under the impression that the only visible differences between the French gun tank and flammpanzer were the winch on the back and the stubby flame gun replacing the 75mm.

In 10mm couldn't you get away with simply snipping the 75mm barrel down to a stump?

To be fair, I'm more at home in mid to late war Eastern Front so not a vehicle I'm much acquainted with.

By the way, I have an unbuilt Zvezda 1:72 JU 88 kit which is no use to me. Any offers to swap for sth more in my line?

That's what I did.

The back end is different due to the fuel storage tanks.

True, a specialised vehicle with only a small number converted...(Sturmtiger? Jagdtiger?)...but it did see some use...on Eastern Front as well as at Arnhem.
(I had a link to paste in, but have lost it...however, I think the initial 48 were followed by another 60). And the photos...I still can't get the insert images' button to do anything! lol).  :(  :-[  There are a couple of pics with the back end visible.to be found by Googling Char B1 Flamm images...(or something like), for those interested.
Yes, the front is simple...but the back end would be a pain to someone like myself...whose 'Greenstuff' has sat in the fridge, unused for several years! lol.  :o
Might not sell like a T34 but given the sales of Paras to people 'who might get round to Arnhem, someday' ...(Just bought some Paras at 'Border Reiver!)...it could be useful...it IS a Flame tank...and the Brits COULD knock it to pieces!  :d

The only image I had in my collection of "reference photos for projects that will never happen" of a Flammwagen auf Panzerkampfwagen B-2(f) was the one attached, which seems to show a Char 1 (bis) flame tank without the box on the back(?).

The box doesn't look too difficult to scratch build, though I'd use plastic card rather than green stuff as being easier to fix mistakes.

That's the kiddy, Ithoriel!  :) The pics that I would have liked to have shown had stowage of an oil drum on top of the box. I doubt that I will be looking to do any conversions in 10mm anytime soon :(  , but this armour could be a very interesting addition to an Armhem game.  :)
