It's not like it's something obscure, like Napoleonic French, it's a basic, Period essential troop type.

Ok so a privately raised unit which was disbanded due to it's excesses and atroicities, were esentially Gurillas, and were defeated on the few occasions they hit continental troops are an essentail unit. Now Lt Inf with Fergesson Rilfes, or even Aztecs can claim to be essential.

I've got some placards sorted and some chants thought up - really original stuff like "what-do-we-want - Tarletons, when-do-we-want-it - Now". Come Brothers, we'll picket the Bash and not let anyone in until we get what we want. ;D ;D ;D

Let's just have all the new releases in alphabetical order. So things with "A", like...well, Aztecs, or American War of Independence, would come quite soon. The War of Northern Aggression might have to wait a bit, but this is a sacrifice I am willing to make for the greater good.

Hi

Just seen that Kallistra are doing AWI in 10mm and they will have cav in Tarletons!

As Pendraken's range are "big" 10mm's and Kallistra are more 12mms than 10mms then the range should be compatible

Whereas nobody is doing the Mexicans! And, come to think of it, who could afford such a large army of their figures? Kallistra don't come cheap. :(

I'm not sure Kallistra will be compatible. Judging by this pic on General Shermans blog;

http://btsherman.6sided.net/

Assuming the ACW and AWI ranges are roughly similar. I've heard that their increased size is a conscious decision on Kallistra's part, I can understand why.

I wouldn't worry though, the first of the AWI cavalry should be ready in a few weeks. ;)

Yes, Kallistra is definitely too big for Pendraken. Their “Conscious decision” lost my business.
Title: Re: AWI Cavalry & Infantry in Tarletons
Post by: clibinarium on 16 October 2012, 03:26:22 PM
Yes, its a bit odd. I understand the motivation behind it, if the idea is to encourage the customer to commit to that range and that range only, but its a zero sum gamble. Either you'll get all their business or none of it.
It would be nice if they were compatible, its always useful to have additional variety in an army. Not sure the bosses will approve of me saying that or not, but my view is that compatibility helps different companies ranges mutually. That's just a guess, maybe people in the business with actual figures in front of them know better.
Title: Re: AWI Cavalry & Infantry in Tarletons
Post by: General Bt Sherman on 16 October 2012, 05:27:33 PM
Well, the past ranges must be selling well enough to continue adding new ranges. I can’t imagine that their new AWI range will be more complete than what Pendraken already offers. At this point the only way I would consider using Kallistra figures is if they offer a range that is not covered by Pendraken, Like the War of 1812.
Title: Re: AWI Cavalry & Infantry in Tarletons
Post by: Leon on 16 October 2012, 06:01:20 PM
As far as I'm aware, the original reason for the bigger figures goes back to when they started using our Fantasy figures.  With the Fantasy ranges being a little larger than the historical 10mm, more in the 12-14mm bracket, when Kallistra wanted some Medieval-style humans to go with them, a slightly larger figure was sculpted.  That sizing has then continued through their other ranges.
