Title: Spotter Aircraft
Post by: AJ at the Bank on 29 June 2019, 11:14:59 AM
We got a bit lost with our Spotter Aircraft yesterday (!) - can you help to clarify please Mark...

Per Spotter Aircraft rules on p49....and Reece ability on p29

Declaring / Using FAO or Reece ability
When does the player declare this please?
Currently thinking in Initiative phase .....so can then roll for Reece Movement - per below...

Moving  -
Do we move the aircraft in the end of the Command phase by a single 100cm move when the unit has acted as an FAO in that turn....?
...but when it has chosen to apply Reece ability in the turn, do we treat as a Reece unit ....and move (potential multiple times) at any time during the Command Phase?

Many thanks
Adam

Again, logic applies Adam.

If you are going to use the Spotter Aircraft for Recce you must make that decision at the start of the Game Turn - so the Initiative phase is the right place or you will not be able to roll for how far you move or make your spotter roll.

If it is being used as an FAO it must move like an FAO - at the end of the move.
If it is behaving as a Recce it moves like Recce based on a multiple moved determined by the dice roll (assuming that it hasn't spotted, when it must remain stationary).

Mark it seems the most comon use for the spotter aircraft was looking for artillery, and they were linked to to the counter battery batteries. They also seem too easy to shoot down, at least in CWC, ask Andy Canham, with his OV-10 which lasted 1 move.

I am not 100% convinced that they were not that difficult to shoot down Ian -  ;)
I agree re Counter battery action - I'll have a think about that.
In CWC the ranges of the AA makes a spotter plane or chopper much more of an AA 'magnet'.

Hi Mark

Are Spotter Aircraft acting as Reece limited to just Communicating (bit like RSUs) ...or can they also choose to Reconnoitre please?
Thanks
Adam
