Title: Hello from Leuven, Belgium
Post by: Cavillarius on 19 September 2018, 02:00:11 PM
Hi all,

Cavillarius here from Leuven in Belgium. I'm about to switch from 6mm Ancients (Baccus) to mostly Pendraken 10mm Colonials.

Welcome to the forum, Cavillarius - from another foreigner.  :)
I think you will find Pendraken's range and service nonpareil.

Isn't Belgium still in Europe?

We are all European then!

At least until Brexit.

A 'hello' from Bonnie Scotland.

Well, indeed! Both our online contact and the samples have been excellent so far.

Coming from 6mm, where scale creep is rife, I was pleasantly surprised to find that at least Old Glory and Pendraken are fully compatible. I'm still waiting for my sample batches from Magister Militum and Steve Barber. The bulk of my forces will come from our host, though!

Welcome To the forum Cavillarius

I have had problems with scale creep within the Magister Militum  Early imperial roman range.  The legionaries only came up to the armpits of the auxiliary archers.  I don't know if it was just that pack or what, but I believe that some of thier rangers have more than one sculptor

Let's just agree that what unites us is that we all play with toy soldiers. That way we're at least inclusive of everyone!

Welcome to the forum Cavillarius!

Pendraken are a great company to deal with.

The figures are gorgeous (and improving with every new range IMHO).

The members of  the forum are well-read, well-intentioned and well weird :D

Cavallarius, here are a couple old blog posts that show some 10mm figure comparisons:

https://inredcoatragsattired.com/2015/05/11/thats-about-the-size-of-it/

https://inredcoatragsattired.com/2015/05/13/thats-about-the-size-of-it-ii/

I have just recently added some Lancer Miniatures that work well with Pendraken also.

Today we are all Europeans.
Actually we will be Europeans ad infinitum, as will the Russians, Norwegians, Serbians, Swiss etc., whether or not we are in the Union. After all, much to a certain Mr.Trump's chagrin, Canadians and Mexicans are also Americans, just not citizens of the United States of that continent. Anyway, welcome from the forum's resident fan of Belgium - Hope Leuven is having better/calmer weather than us today.

What ho, Cavillarius!

You say "colonials".  Here, that usually means Americans. I am guessing in your case not. Are you thinking Belgian Colonials?

Welcome.

IMMUNE !!!!! =O =O =O =O =O      RESOLVE !!!!!   =O =O =O =O =O =O  you might be able to spell the words, but you cannot use either in any sentence when referring to Frederick Simeon Nobbs and Pendraken products.

If Techno showed you some iron filings and told you they were  maggots for the Pendraken Zoo you would have two packs!

I will as soon as I have some. At the moment I'm still a martyr to the lead piles: one 6mm Pontic army to finish and two massive 2mm 30 Years War armies (Spanish and 'Statish') to start on... Painting the latter feels a bit like painting licorice all-sorts (Engelse drop). Bit of a failed experiment maybe.  ???

They can get done fairly fast, i know ididn't take that long:

just don't overdo it, most of the stuff won't be noticable anyway!

This whole dry brushing lark doesn't satisfy me one bit, but you're right: I could probably do all of that 2mm stuff in two nights. Oh well, once more onto the breach, I guess...

With all the 'Dremmeling' I'm doing, to prepare the little TB men and horses for Leon.....And another chap that Leon's put me in contact with (Different scale)....I've got SO much white metal 'dust' on the cutting mat......I reckon Nobby would accept that I've made a Biblical plague sized swarm of locusts !

Ian would like to design a giant saw that could cut partly through the Earth's crust so that Britain could be repositioned much further out in the Atlantic. Won't bother with Northern Ireland - it's a massive pain in the arse and the Republic can have it any time it likes as far as I'm concerned.
