Title: What is a.....?
Post by: Techno on 27 July 2018, 08:32:05 AM
Galleyass ?

I'm listening to a book set around the time of the Armada.....And the chap often mentions (what sounds like) Galleyasses.

As I haven't got a clue how to spell it....I've taken a wild stab....But that reveals nothing.
I imagine it's some type of boat which uses oars, when needed ?

If someone could give me the correct spelling...I can go and look it up for myself.

Cheers - Phil

A galleyass is another name for the kitchen donkey.

(Yes, that could have been 10 times worse.)

Seabourne Kitchen Donkey Nobby.... ;)

In real life they were pretty useless in North Atlantic conditions combining the worst features of the Galley and Galleon, altough they were reasonably efficent in the Med.as they had more guns than a Galley and in calmer waters could outrun a Galleon.

My wife loves to collect kitchen appliances- I'll tell her about this one - how much do they eat and do you need to take them on walks as you do a dog?
