A rather wonderful few hours touring this. My photos and thoughts.

Thanks Lem, that is a wonderful report with some great pictures. Somewhere else to put on my list of 'must go to' places!
That looks as though it is well worth a visit. Thanks for posting.
Great photo report. Seems like a really good museum, lots of kit to see, and lots of very evocative pieces too.
Spectacular blog. Well done!
Museum certainly looks well worth a visit
A really good blog post as well
Your mention of a Kiwi Torpedo has me intrigued :-\
A museum I've never heard of, so thanks for the 'heads up' as well as lots of nice 'photos :)
Excellent, Will.
There's one gun in the cabinet with all the 'rifles' with a very fat barrel...What's that particular weapon ?
A grenade launcher ?....A weapon that fired shrapnel ?
Cheers - Phil
Nice one Will, thanks for the info on this, it looks like a great museum.

Think that's something like a Lewis Gun for use in aircraft? The circular magazine goes on top.
Think it's just a jacket on the barrel.
I assumed it was a Lewis Gun that had lost it's stock ... but you know what they say about assume :)
If we're talking about the same weapon.

That's the chappie.
I thought the grips looked like a version meant for use in an aeroplane.
That makes sense, chaps.
Ta !! :)
Cheers - Phil.

All of the photos I can remember seeing of Lewis Guns on aircraft show them used without the shroud. Though given the state of my memory that may not signify much! :D
I'll send you some of my little light blue pills, Mike.....Your memory will get even worse. :P
Cheers - Phil
What an awesome museum and what an amazing collection! Could you tell if he Renault FT17 was in original paint? I also have to say that it truly saddens me when I see the true horror of war brought home, and the several medical displays in the museum are no exception.
Thank you very much for sharing!!!
Terry

I would have thought that the
Lewis gun was the second most likely gun Phil would recognise :-/
The Bren being the first ;)
:P ;D ;D ;D
