As the World Cup gets started very soon, I thought it might be fun to add a bit of extra interest to proceedings by having a competition!
I've arranged all of the World Cup teams in random order on a sheet here at Pendraken HQ and assigned them a number. Simply choose a number and before the first match kicks off I'll reveal the countries behind the numbers! Whoever picked the winning team/number gets themselves £20 credit! We'll give £10 to the runner-up and £5 to each of the losing semi-finalists.
Some quick rules:
- You must have claimed a number by 3pm on Thursday 14th June. The first match kicks off at 4pm. You may change your number up until that point.
- Each person can only claim one number.
- Numbers can be claimed by multiple people so that we can have more than 32 forum members taking part. Everyone will win a prize, so if 4 people have number 14, which turns out to be Brazil and they win, all 4 people get a £20 credit prize.
- Any questions, let me know!

However, I do find history interesting, and my favourite podcast did a World Cup Special.
So, if you want to know why Austria didn't play in the 1938 World Cup (and I'm guessing most of you can work it out) and why England refused to take their place listen to episode 221 of "No Such Thing as a Fish" (from the QI Elves)

Personal brilliance is one thing but you need support. He does so well at Barca because they play to his strengths and the whole tam is in tune. Argentina...not so much. Still rate Messi way above Ronaldo.
Not really into schadenfreude. I'd rather focus on what we (sorry, for me, that is England) might do, rather than revel in the misfortunes of others. As long as the English play as if they want to, they enjoy it, and it matters to them, I will be satisfied whatever the results.

Forgetting the sweepstake itself....I see I've got only two of the original 5 teams that I'd have liked to get, before Leon did the draw. (France and Belgium)
Seeing as they meet in a semi - final, I can only end up with one of 'my' five original 'picks' in the final.
