Title: 1809 Napoleonic Rhinebund
Post by: Zippee on 10 January 2018, 11:08:59 AM
If anyone else is really interested in adding the missing German Confederation states to this range - Wurttemberg, Saxony, Hesse and Baden  please note Leon's comment below:

Sadly a rough calculation for Wurttemberg, Saxony, Hesse and Baden combined only comes to about 4000 figures, I would commit to that but it doesn't really compete with 20,000

That's not a bad start though, if we can find some more people who want them we might be able to sort something out and bump them up the requests lists?

In terms of figures needed
I'm thinking:

Saxony
General & ADC
Schutzen - march, skirmish & command (plumed bicorn)
Grenadier - march & command (bearskin)
Fusilier - march & command (bicorn)
[optional would be a leib garde grenadier - march & command]
Kuirassier/garde du korps/chevaux-leger - trooper & command (bicorn) [uniform similar enough to be the same figures]
hussars - trooper & command (mirlton shako)
artillery crew & limber team (bicorn - train is unknown to me but I'd assume bicorn in lieu of any other info)

Wurttemberg
General & ADC
leichtes/jager - march, skirmish & command (plumed mirlton shako)
grenadier - march (no command needed) (plumed helmet with transverse crest)
fusilier - march & command (plumed helmet)
Chevaux leger - trooper & command (plumed helmet with tail)
jager zu pferd - trooper & command (helmet with crest)
artillery crew & limber team (plumed helmets & plumed mirlton shako)

Hesse
General & ADC
Fusilier & Musketeer - march & command (bicorn)
[As these are essentially the same uniform a single code would suffice but a separate skirmish pack would be helpful for the fusiliers]
chevaux-leger - trooper & command (helmet)
artillery crew & limber team (bicorn & corsehut)
[this would be for the bicorn wearing Hessians, anyone wanting shako wearing infantry can use French reasonably enough - the cavalry remain quite unique though]

Baden
Can be raised from a mixture of Bavarian and Wurttemberg figures - the helmet should be more Wurttemberg and the uniform more Bavarian but I think we could make do - and French elites for the hussars.

We could add Duchy of Warsaw here as well, they remain popular throughout the period and will probably be a good seller. That is more of a revamping of the old range rather than new though:
General & ADC
Voltigeur - march & skirmish (plumed czapska)
fusilier - march & command (czapska)
grenadier - march (plumed czapska) - from 1810 bearskins which would be more popular I'm thinking, and voltigeurs could be used for those wanting czapkas
Chasseurs a cheval and hussars are essentially French in style, so covered already
uhlans - trooper & command (czapska)
uhlan elites (czapska-bearskin)
foot artillery (shako)
horse artillery (czapska)
limber teams (Czapska)

Not certain how much need there is for a separate General & ADC for each range but I figure more general officer variants is overall a good thing.

I'm assuming limbers and unridden teams can come from existing ranges - Austrian guns were well distributed across all armies after the 1805 debacle.

I will add that a wurst limber option for Bavaria and Austria would be nice - that's the long limber with seat with the crew sitting astride, so one limber plus a separate single cast crew (one Bavarian, one Austrian) as an option to the existing limbers would be nice.

Also worth bearing in mind that with a Saxon range, you're well on your way to the core of an 1806 Prussian range as well

Yes, please. I would buy those, especially the Saxons.

Yes,

I'd be interested in a few on that list.

I want the Wurttemberg light troops in particular. The Saxons interest me as well and although I am no uniform buff, are they not wearing a Prussian style uniform which really means that they can double up as Prussians in pre 1808 uniforms?

I use a 1:20 figure ratio so for infantry to make up the brigades, probably around 500 figs which is no where near that guys 20,000!!!!

Anyway, I can't see any similar ranges on Old Glorys 10mm or Lancer...and MagM are too big.....not sure who else does 10mm

I'd be interested in Wurttemberg and the Duchy of Warsaw  :)

I would also be interested in the full list suggested, and would commit to a similar quantity, this being the start of my 1812 project.

To avoid confusion, by similar quantity I meant Zippee's 4,000.

How different are they? Are they nothing like any other range.

Depends on your sensibilities - if you're happy using any French infantry in shako for any French, Austrian, Russian, Prussian, British infantry in shako, then you'll be fine with using other ranges. If not then there are enough significant differences to warrant new ranges to cover these important if not pivotal allies of the 1809 campaign. I have already listed where suitable alternatives and proxies can be used.

I have no idea. I have enough trouble remembering all the minor states, let alone uniforms!
