So as i said a couple of days ago, one of the things i want to do this year is to get as much models painted as possible.
Instead of flooding the forum with one post after the other, like i did in december, i thought it would be better to keep track of things in one thread, just like Fred does.
I'll start this thread with my fiirst painted models of the year, some uruk hai for LOTR SBG.
10 uruk hai finished
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpsnppcofsp.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpsnppcofsp.jpg.html)
And 11 more that are actually finished, but without flock.
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zps4s3ugujj.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zps4s3ugujj.jpg.html)
I was wondering what to do with my bases, as i said here:
http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,15355.0.html
I think i'll just try the flock, so have basecoated these ready to slap it on when it arrives.
So i'll include them into the count as all the painting is done.
Models finished: 21 !!!
Edit: It wasn't untill i saw the pictures that i realised how flat the leather on the uruk hai scouts looked, so i gave them a brown wash just now :-bd
Good call on the flock and wash.
Got another 16 uruk hai finished (again still need flock):
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpsvs1ccanb.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpsvs1ccanb.jpg.html)
The one on the right is actually a spare Lurtz model with a greenstuf helmet. Has been part painted for years and finally finished him.
These are the last of my armoured uruks, Have already started on the lighter troops:
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpsbugbf1l4.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpsbugbf1l4.jpg.html)
So far i'm happy with my output!
Models finished: 37 !!!
Well done that man =D>
Looking good
Finished The last of my uruk-hai, and changed some bits on the scouts i painted the last time. Also had a go at painting some white hands on them. Really annoying stuff. But they'll look ok all bunched togheter!
Bit of a dark gloomy picture that shows the hands
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpssmaaefs3.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpssmaaefs3.jpg.html)
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpseahro6al.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpseahro6al.jpg.html)
The one in the middle has quite a weird handprint, I'll let it be like that though, maybe he smeared a bit ;D
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zps9jim21ew.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zps9jim21ew.jpg.html)
Models finished: 60!!!
And suddenly i have everything for Amon Hen painted and ready to go! I was going to put some effort in this year, but didn't expect to have a complete force finished by the end of the first week! If i keep going at this rate i'll burn through the flock pretty fast though, and it hasn't even arrived yet ;D ;D ;D
Don't know what will be up next, maybe warriors of minas thirith, or moria goblins. Was going to do rohan first, but i'll wait for my lancers from warlord games to arrive, so i can paint all the horses at the same time (yaaaay horses =) =) =) =) )
Nice work. Peter ! 8)
Cheers - Phil
Look really good
=D> =D> =D>
Amazing what a bit of focus can achieve :)
It might be an idea to do the horses in a couple of batches with something else in between seeing you like painting horses so much ;)
I find working in smaller batches stops me being overwhelmed and stalling.
You will have to take some notes on how you painted the horses so you can paint the other batch(es) similarly.
I use 5 standard horse types; chestnut, bay, brown, black, dun.

I tend to work by colours. I have 22 horses to paint, so 'll paint all theones in the same colour first.then the next colour and so on. You can sve a lot of time if you get one colour done in one go. just make sure you divide the poses evenly, so you get some in every colour (doesn't matter to me that much, because the riders are all separate and i can mix and match as much as i want afterwards!

Yes just imagine if i had painted for a week when i bought these, i would have had them game ready for years now. But to be honest i used to paint a lot slower. Practice makes perfect!
No painting this time, but progress none the less.
Last year i was given some battered up warg riders by a collegue. He had found them in a lot of stuff he had bought (he buys/sells a lot of second hand stuff). I kept them in a box untill i had time to do something with them. Finally decided to get them patched up and ready for painting.
I gave them all riders, using whatever spare minis i had, and made some saddles and some fur with green stuff so they would fit properly. Bit of a quick job, but i think they will look OK once painted. Beats having to buy some anyway ;D
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpscxg61clp.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpscxg61clp.jpg.html)
3 of the riders are moria goblins, but as orcs come in different sizes, they will do fine!
So, i started painting my batch of warriors of minas tirith yesterday, and i just finished them up.
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpsrwtfx3oy.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpsrwtfx3oy.jpg.html)
In the back of the picture you can see the wargs are also on their way. I have 27 men of minas tirith, so adding them to the total:
models finished 87 !!!
Would be good for moral if i could hit 100 by the end of this week, but with this being my last day off work it will be a challenge to make that mark!
Well done that man =D>
The white trees look good :-bd =D> :-bd
Thanks!
Good stuff, Peter.
Cheers - Phil
Those really look the part. 8)
Nice tree
Happy to report that i hit my '100 models in 2 weeks' mark just now!
mordor orc archers, metal mordor orcs and warg riders
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC04074_zpswyf3irql.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC04074_zpswyf3irql.jpg.html)

3 metal orcs (the ones with shield will be used as captains)
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC04076_zpskrsuuxcs.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC04076_zpskrsuuxcs.jpg.html)
the archers, painted like a rag tag bunch, with various skin tones
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC04077_zpsaapsqira.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC04077_zpsaapsqira.jpg.html)
Excuse me for the less than optimal pictures, couldn't get the light to cooperate!
So 7 archers, 3 metal orcs and 5 warg riders= 15 models
Models finished= 102 <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P
At about 1/4th of last ears output :D
Now if only that flock would arrive so i can start finishing the bases...
Well done that man =D> =D>
Keep painting while you wait for the flock to arrive

I'll try ;)
The biggest problem i'm having is reisting the urge to buy more models ;D ;D
Nice work, Peter,
For the photo's, you might try using a piece or two of white card, to , 'reflect' some of the light into the front of the soldiers.
That's probably help.
Cheers - Phil.
Great work, the rag tag bunch is how Tolkien orcs should be! :)
If your camera has a "fill in flash" that may also be useful - or covering your flash with greaseproof paper to diffuse the light.
Thanks for the tips, i usuallt put them on white paper, but as it was 2 AM, i was no longer in the mood to make a 'photo booth' ;D
So, I could not resist the urge ;D
Just won an ebay lot with 400 + € worth of models for 93. Too good a bargain to let it pass.
I will be getting:
Uruk hai siege machine

Goblin king
Aragorn the king foot and mounted
Faramir foot and mounted
Denethor
Madril
Théoden mounted

So, little update.
I have not abandoned my quest just yet, but being back at the job has slowed me down as was expected. to make matters even slower, i am painting the remainder of my mordor orcs, and am trying to make each one unique. So lots of different browns, greens and khaki, but hoping that the end result will be worth it!
just finished the last of the clothing, will start weapon shafts, shields and skin next. After that a lot of washing in different tones to try and differentiate them even further.
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/temporary_zpsxfklgx6x.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/temporary_zpsxfklgx6x.jpg.html)
Bases painted, highlighted, detailed, edged and pva sealed. 🐋(Couldn't find a seal, will a whale do?)
Lots of bases...
Goblins probably hate bright light, anyway.
Oops, wrong thread! Sorry Peter. :(

Just finished applying the flock to everything. Couldn't stand the mix of my old basing with the newly flocked ones so flocked everything!
Next up now will probably be men of numenor or rohan.
Good call, consistent basing really helps the look of figures
Those look t'riffic ! 8)

wow, you're a painting machine! Its taking me all my time to just paint 10mm, never mind the larger sizes
I do my best!

4 archers, 4 spears and the rest are regular infatrymen.(some conversions in there though)

Rollin, rollin, rollin
Keep those minis rollin.
Rhohan!
Cor. You wield a mean paintbrush there. :)
Nice work and nice to see someone making progress on their lead pile.
I'm wondering what's going to go on the really big oval base in the picture. That looks really large.

Actually just a spare base. Might fit the uruk hai siege ballista on there, but I can't decide if I want it on a base or 'free' standing :-\
8) really cooler 8)
Very nice, indeed, Peter. 8)
Cheers - Phil
Got another bunch painted today, this time all the uruk hai from the recent ebay lot:
command, with free handed banners (i made the tower design deliberately sketchy, they are orcs you know ;D ) :
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC04096_zpsvyzu6qzc.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC04096_zpsvyzu6qzc.jpg.html)
two bomb teams:

berserkers:

And the siege ballista:

So in total 25 models (yes i'm counting the ballista as a separate model, it's big enough for that! )
So this brings the total to 200 models finished!
Really like the banners. Keep going!
Nice Peter, wicked ballista!
Thanks all!
Going to cease activities for a day and get a game in. Haven't played a single game this year, too busy painting!

That's a reasonable excuse ;)
So, that day off from painting became a week, a really busy one. Couldn't be bothered to pick up the brush when the day was over.
But with the weekend in full swing i have managed to free some time to keep chipping away at that lead mountain!
Painted some lord of the rings characters and a couple of reaper bones minis that i bought a while ago. These are destined to be used with d&d and Song of blades and heroes, wich is a separate and fairly new project, so i can use my 'newer' basing on them, since they don't really need to fit in with my older stuff.
Aragorn, king Elessar

and some big gribblies: ogre chieftain, ice golem (heroclix mini) and a minotaur. Ran out of big round bases for these, will add those later

A very small reduction but it's a start :) Couple of foot and a mounted command from my 3mm Dux Bello/Brit Late Romans. 6mm Dark Age buildings are perfect for 3mm as you can see.

A White Castle?
Some more miniatures finished, this time for the D&D wrath of Ashardalon game. So no grass on the bases because they dwell in a dungeon ;)

This is a 500 point warband for SOBH,really look forward to trying them out!
prolific work Peter. The figs on the tile look great.
Thanks!
Have another batch of classic bretonians to go through, will paint those up in different livery. That way they can fight togheyer or against each other as rival lords.
Great work, again, Peter ! 8)

Good steady progress =D> =D> =D>
Thanks!
Any suggestions for the next batch? I'm thinking green-white livery, or red black.
You really are cracking on with getting stuff painted and based, and hopefully played with?

Got some more stuff finished today, old bretonian models for use with SOBH.

Is the knight on the right hand end a GW Bretonian one? A plastic or metal figure?
He's a classic brettonian foot knight. Very hard to come by these days.
If you like some in a similar style, black tree design make a few under the "men of averaign" tab in their fantasy range.
Thinking about it a bit more, the blister I got him in20 years ago said "grail knight hero on foot", not foot knight.
Foot knights were no longer in the army list by then so was probably renamed.
I remember him slowing the entire unit down, because in those days the warhammer rules made a model on foot with armour take a movement penalty, and the unit moved at the rate of the slowest model ;D
Funny, that. Nobody seems to impose movement penalties on armoured units these days, myself included.
think it has something to do with 'streamlined' rules.
Most rules these days go with standard moves for troops, cavalry and sometimes a faster move for skirmishers.
found the foot knight, appears to be a hero from 1997

For the men of averaign from black tree:
http://eoeorbisuk.com/collections/fantasy/range_men-of-averaign?page=3
Thanks - I was just having a look at those. Most of them are cavalry though, only a couple of foot knights. But they certainly have the style of the GW figures.
I do quite like the classic Citadel foot knights (going back another 10 years probably!!) and 100 years in style too. These are still available from Foundry. But really I don't need any more 28mm figures. I've piles of Perry plastics to finish off, including lots of Men at Arms (which are effectively knights!)
I probably don,t need more either, but you know, variatio doesn't hurt :D
Finished the rest of my knights last night. Took forever!
the musician was already painted.

Oh Peter! just when I pack my 28's away so that I can crack on with other stuff .......... you make me get them back out again!
Very nice, I am assuming the cav are on 60mm frontages?
They are 60 x 45. Based for napolonic wargaming by neil thomas.
They lack the command models, but seeing they cost me 12£ in a warlord games sprue sale I'm not too picky ;)
I wonder if they would suit black powder too. Infantry are based on 45 x 40.
All units are made up of 4 bases.
The only requirement that Black Powder has is that Small, Standard and Large sized units can be represented. If you take your 4 bases (200mm) as standard, then going to 3 bases for small and 5 or even 6 bases for large would work fine. For myself, I think you could get away with 3 x 50mm bases for standard (6") with inches converted to either half inch or a centimetre.
Is there any problem with only using standard size units? I'm guessing no, but wanted to check anyway.
I've been looking at the waterloo starter for black powder lately (and the la haye sainte set) so am interested how my forces would fit in.
Although the more I look at the buildings in that set, the less interest I have. The 4 ground farm just looks way better.( the warlord games buildings has no interior)
I use the same sized bases, with more or less figures on it!
Problem is, I already have 6 cavalry regiments and 16 infantry regiments. All 3 cav/6 infantry to a bsse (except the lifeguard they have 2 cav per base). All are 4 bases strong
Toying with the idea of mounting two skirmishers on a 20x40 base to add to the side to denote larger units. Or just mark them as a large or small unit.
Just sticking with standard sized units is fine - if you were doing a historical scenario and simply had to reflect a large unit, then as you suggest that can easily be accommodated.
Is there a base removal mechanic?
No, the unit takes x hits, shakes, then breaks. So units are only removed when no longer combat effective (or completely knackered)!
Ok.
Might be able to extend the unit frontage for big units using a mounted officer then, justput him on a 30x40 base and pop him inbetween the command stand an the troops. :D :D :D
I wouldn't worry too much about the smaller and larger units. We hardly ever used them in HC. Small is easy, just use 2 stands. For large either just use a couple of stands from another unit, or use your base extending tactics!!
Well, the thing is, i have everything painted up togheter, so when using 4 bases you have the exact number of voltiguers, grenadiers, and all the company colours in order. (talking about napoleonic french)
I don't want to start pulling that apart actually, so would rather keep them togheter and just add a mounted officer. just think of it as a big marker that looks good!
Finished some of my 10mm zombie war miniatures. These have been on the back burner for a while now, decided to restart them because i want to get a game or two in.

I suspect the Marauders are the best lit and all are of that standard
Thanks!
Yeah the camera on my phone gives pretty mixed results. The marauders are painted exactly the same as the thunderbolts. I'm guessing they just took the flash a bit better because of their bigger surface.
Nice work again, Peter.

I really like those air units, I didn't even know they existed! superb small footprint for gaming.
Funny you should mention that. Have just downloaded brigade models' free starfighter rules (squadron commander)
Want to see if I can make something of those. (these are not really starfighters, but I have been looking for something to try the rules for a while)

Spent most of the week rebasing and touching up old mage knight models (and a few others).
I wanted to have a bunch of models that the kids wouldn't trash if we ever got to Song of blade and heroes /d&d , so the prepainted bendy models looked fine. I have a ton of them anyway, so i just picked the ones i liked/needed and put the remaining few hundred back in the closet ;D ;D
Pictures are a bit off, but too late to retake them!
First off, the ones that i painted completely (you will see these again in the next pictures too):

So this gives me some good models for song of blades and heroes, at minimal cost.
but although i mostly did bases, i can also add 5 to the tally!
So: 562 models finished!!
Well done =D>
Some cool looking stuff here. Should do nicely.
That's a big batch of tasty! Nicely done. :)
Been a while since i finished something, but still werking on various things.
Today, I got out the airbrush:
Finished the tanks just now. I had 3 tanks that were painted before these, but still unfinished without decals. Since i have changed to vallejo paints, the older tanks are a little bit different, as the shades don't completely match. However it isn't that noticeable 'in the flesh' as it looks on picture!
the whole bunch, the tanks with the old camo colour in the back.(with an extra multilaser turret to use a hellhound as a chimera)

So, going to count these as 9 finished models, as those 3 old ones were only partly finished:
So 571 models finished!
Nice work chap
Looking good! :-bd
I used to have a boxful of those old Mage Knight figures that I disposed of because "I didn't have a use for them". Then Frostgrave came along and I could have kicked myself up the proverbrial. ~X(

Finally finished the snipers bases.

SO 576 models finished!
Looking great.
Like them, Peter. I'm curious, is the the armor removable from the up-armored sentinel or so you have to make a choice between the configuration? I know zero about this genre but I like seeing the operator. Pretty cool stuff.
The top can be switched between configurations. As long as You don't swing It about it won't fall off.
Main difference is that the One where You can See the driver counts as Open topped so is more vulnerable.
Cool stuff, well painted.

Finished some imperial guard.

Catachan jungle fighters:

A few were already painted, but didn't have their bases finished untill now. The missile launcher catachan doesn't have a base, haven't decided wich one to give him yet!
So adding 22 models to the tally:
598 models finished!
1500+, you're catching me!
Good job on those.
Well done =D>
Very nice indeed

Andy
Thanks all!
Made a dave graffam ruined church just now, and some of his crosspiece ruins a few days ago.

I like what you have done with the cross-piece ruins - the cardboard makes them have some width, giving you the good look of the paper and the 3D effect.
For me the ruined church doesn't really work, as the walls just look too thin. It would benefit from a similar treatment to the ruins.
Yes i know, i would have liked to make the church with the same materials. Only problem is, the ruined walls are 'free'. What i mean is that they are just one piece models.
The ruined church is not, so when you start making the walls out of that thick cardboard, they don't fit togheter anymore. The cardboard i used for the ruins is about 8mm thick.
what i did consider was printing an additional copy, and making cardboard templates to fit the finished model, and put the outside walls on those, and then add it to the finished model. The good thing about that is that i ony have to make them for the parts i can see, and so saves me a ton of work. And while i do that, i can use the finished model for games! :D
Of course that has to wait a bit, because i still have a set of those ruin pieces o make, and some small ruined houses (i just finished one).
The brick ruins are very nice.
The church works as well. As with all wargaming it takes a bit of suspension of disbelief, that's all.
Haven't done much painting lately, but did order more USMC and japanese from warlord games.
This meant i needed some suitable scenery, so made some palm trees today.

a picture with a bolt action marine for scale:
Went pretty fast, started these only this afternoon. Started life as a big wood screw glued to a base. Then wrapped with kitchen towel soaked in a pva/water/brown paint mixture, leaves cut out from green card and hairy bits with offcuts from a coconut mat (very fitting!)
Bases have been textured, wil leave overnight to dry and highlight / flock tomorrrow!
No bad for a quick and dirty little project, if i say so myself ;)
Not bad, not bad at all :-bd =D> :-bd
I can smell the rotting coconuts from here! Really well done.

Cheers - Phil
Brilliant
Thanks chaps!
Now the biggest problem with tem:
Where do I store these :o
Got the bases finished, opted to make a nice green base for overgrown jungle. Will try to make some area bases so can put these on in the configuration i want, just like my normal woodland bases/trees. Could maybe add some lichen to the bases, to represent even more overgrown areas, but i will wait a bit and see. Lately i just keep a big bag of lichen and put it on the battlefield wherever i want, so might not be necessary! Is really usefull, as you can move the lichen out of the way when moving through or standing on top (wobbly model syndrome! )
And although not really miniatures, i did make these from start to finish, so i am adding them to the tally (just to keep me motivated :) )
so adding 25: 623 miniatures finished!
Top work!
:-bd nicely done
So, what shall we build next ?
Log bunker? Hut? Or just paint some models or play a game. Decisions!
Very good work.
Martin
Very nice, Peter.
Cheers - Phil
Spent the biggest part of yesterday making paper models from dave graffam.
Still need to paint the edges, but thought i'd share!
Two livestock shelters (although they will be used as jungle shelters for my japanese, i left the hay bales and water throughs out especially for that purpose)
the 'outbuildings' set from dave graffam in the back (barn, shed, outhouse, doghouse and chicken coop) , next to his free 'observatorium'. Will use the last one for fantasy, and will combine the outbuildings with his 'coach house' to make a farm complex for my napoleonic battles. i already made that coach house a while ago.
Now i really should stop with making terrain/buildings and get cracking on the miniatures again!
Very nice indeed
Take care
Andy
Cool
What they said. :)
Cheers - Phil
So still no order from warlord, thus no painting of USMC and IJA.
But we ran out of dogfood, so a trip to the pet store had to be made. Found some cheap aquariu plants and took them home. Based them up yesterday, and textured the bases, painted and flocked them just now.

By the time those marines will get here, they will have a nice jungle to play in :D
:-bd =D> :-bd
Perhaps some dry brushing on the leaves to add some variety to the greens :-\
Yes, I thought about that as well, but left it out to limit the time spent. Maybe later when I can spare it! :D
Mountain replenished!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
If I may quote my favourite poet, on the subject of mountains, leaden or otherwise:
So pleas'd at first, the tow'ring Alps we try,
Mount o'er the vales, and seem to tread the sky;
Th' eternal snows appear already past,
And the first clouds and mountains seem the last;
But those attain'd, we tremble to survey
The growing labours of the lengthen'd way,
Th' increasing prospect tires our wand'ring eyes,
Hills peep o'er hills, and Alps on Alps arise!
Nice heap!
Got cracking on my tanks and infantry, but then dumped the infantry and concentrated on the tanks, because they were fun!

626 miniatures finished!
Awesome work!
(Only 999 figures ahead) ;D!
I let my terrain making antics take over! No catching you anymore now!
Not helped that I will be painting lots os 28 mm now too. Will probably switch over to epic after that.
Still have usmc and ija first, then Perry French dragoons and British light dragoons after that.
Dark Elves to finish, then 4 commissions on the rack: 28mm Knights, 18mm Roman cavalry, 18mm Renaissance and 10mm Newline Sea People's.
Should get them done in the next couple of weeks!
Might partake of some epic after that. ;)
Exceptional work on the tank models! Very impressive.

We should have an epic paint off ;D
What you got in mind? Mine is Eldar armour...
I have an entire banana marine army and an ork horde to paint.
You know, I realise I'm getting pretty fast with these. I only started basecoating those tanks yesterday afternoon. I dread the day the little one doesn't sleep in the afternoon anymore!
That's when I reverted to insomnia!
I already do the insomnia thing ;D
What about an ork battlewagon squad? You choose the number and time to finish and I'll see if I can make it!
Okay, let me clear the commissions first! Say September and I'll try to get my Eldar Armour done (two squads and a scorpion tank, maybe the air support too)at the same time. 10 vehicles each?
Cool. I like the tanks, very nice :-bd

Already 31 of the epic buggers finished!
So 709 finished in Total This year!
Argh!
33 Epic underway...
What criterion are we judging our 'Epic Off' on? Viewers votes? Amount done? Artistic Interpretation? Different colours used? Pointlessness of unit?
(1955 figures done)
Choose 10 out of the bunch and put them in poll?
So got 38 more done!
Here's the silly bunch: (i will not give close ups, those are for the paint-off)

So adding 38
747 models finished!

Thans All!
Really happy with How they worked out. Went for bright 2nd Edition colours. With colours for the different clans. Red/white black for goffs, yellow for bad Moons , blue for deathskulls , Red and black + a camo green for bloodaxe and orange for evil Suns.
The dtompas are Red / blue and don't fit into a clan.
Very good progress indeed

Looking great! 8)
Blimey! You are going a pace! (2000)
Well, if i would have painted all my epic this year, i think i would be higher than you already :O)
But i like the diversity. being able to paint lots fast is great, but i enjoy painting something detailed as well. (i really liked putting my time in my bolt action tanks!)
Those are superb too!

Look fun!
I've got 54 horses on the painting block and the moment! 🐴
I'll have infantry over cavalry any day, but necessary evil and all that :)
Back in my AWI thread Fred suggest that I should count cavalry as two figures when totaling the number painted ;)
I haven't before so don't know if i will start now :)
of course, it would make my life easier!
Except I've just been painting a cavalry army, it would put me to vet 3000! ;)

So, as expected, when painting cavalry i always try and find other things to do. (have i already mentioned i hate painting cavalry? ;D )

I'm guessing you want something like "Mordheim on boats" sort of scale but with ship to ship combat as well?
I think Osprey do one like that? Or kit bash Song of Blades :D
Must get the boats, they'll be handy for Ghost Arcapelago!
Was looking at 'cutlass' by black scorpion.
Al still trying to find a good review about the osprey One. Everyone i have seen is not so positive.

Nope, the score is just for painting! :D
Those boats are really effective.
:-bd
I like those.

They are indeed! Are they just on heavy card stock?

Printer paper stuck to cereal packets. Recycling all the way!
Handy! I wonder if we've any such left in the recycling...
It has its drawbacks though. Since Dave graffam had his dollar sale over at wargamevault, my wife's cereals get dumped out of the box when they are still half full.
Hooray for sealing clips!!
I'd get shot if I did that. Assuming t'other half noticed :D

Absolutely! That's the way to do it. Do you scale Dave's kits for 10mm? If so, what percentage do you print them out at?
Cheers, M.

Actually these are all 25/28 mm scale. I have some buildings I want to try for 10 mm (world war ruins), but I think I'll just try to print them at 15mm scale and see how that goes. I have the 'older' pendraken ruins, and I think those were closer to 15mm and I like the way I can move figures in.
For ruins in 10 mm I would suggest getting his 'low ruins', those are simple enough to scale down:

Managed to finish dave graffams' biggest ship, the marauder. This big boy was the reason i went with his ships in the first place!
Mr Long John Silver (28mm scale from eureka miniatures) has kindly offered his services as the token pirate to show off the size of the ship(s).

Was a bugger to assemble, but i think she turned out great!! My only complaint about the kit, is that it has really low sides.would have liked them to be a bit higher. I imagine the decks getting wet constantly on that one!
Nice!
Really like the Marauder, definitly a very large model! I make it about 10 Mr. Silvers in length, so close to a foot?
Agree, it does appear to be riding a tad low in the water, must be all the gold on board. The sail design more than makes up for the lower freeboard, however.
:-bd
It'd be easy enough to make a foam board hull to sit her on wouldn't it? Wonder if you can use the textures to print out a cover for it to match the model...
Nice :)

Just measured, 13 iches in length. So your guess was close!

Was thinking about that yesterday, could make another hull and glue supports to the insides, so I can "slot" the ship in there. Would bring the ship higher+ give me an accessible cargo hold! Will have to wait though, as my printer is out of "juice"...
That'd be better, much more playable :)

managed to get this done just now! Just some corrugated cardboard ' borders' glued on top of each other and decorated with pieces from the original ship textures.

If I make another one, I'll think I'll use filler on the edges of the corrugated cardboard edges before I glue the textures on. For a nicer surface.

Got sidetracked working out orders for crisis and having fun with the pirates pocketmodel game, so very slow progress.
I will make 1000 I promise ;D
Hey all!
Had a bit of time off from painting stuff. Between making papercraft stuff and getting orders ready for crisis, i let the painting rest a bit. browsing around for my new pirate project also took quite a bit of spare time.
But now, with the printer ink dried up, and crisis over and gone (anda week of glueing quite a bit of new models togheter), it's time to regain the momentum and run the final stretch towards the 1000 painted models mark!
I knew things were going to skid to a halt before crisis (that happens every year, getting orders togheter for pick up, browsing the websites of traders etc...), and had hoped to have 900 models ready before that happened. I didn't quite make that, but with 868 finished already I wasn't too far off, so with some extra effrt i would still be able to get to where i need to be. Next week is a short one for me, with only 2 days at the job, so i'll try to make the best of my free time!
But now, the important part! I already got started and finished some voltigeurs and casualty markers:
(http://i.imgur.com/PyRqmhr.jpg) (https://imgur.com/PyRqmhr)
(http://i.imgur.com/t5XBkm6.jpg) (https://imgur.com/t5XBkm6)
togheter with a base from my army to form a unit of 4 bases:
(http://i.imgur.com/YY7lEVT.jpg) (https://imgur.com/YY7lEVT)
some extra casualty markers for my napoleonic armies with the ever usefull dice frames!
(http://i.imgur.com/xsjnWjG.jpg) (https://imgur.com/xsjnWjG)
So adding 12 to the 868 i already had: 880 models finished!!!
On to 900!! Next up will be either french mounted and dismounted dragoons or british light dragoons, and maybe some mounted officers!
ps; have a bit of a glare on the pictures, but can't get it right. But the little one played with the camera!
Nicely done boss!
(2450)
Paint more epic!
Well that's an option, but too many 28's that need to be done! Had our first game of bolt action with the group on Thursday, wich was very well received. So after the nappies, I think I will be straight to the marines and Japanese army!
Should start thinking about next year as well. Think I'll make the challenge 500 models next year. I'm almost out of baby nappy time in the afternoon, so I'll be losing a lot of painting time :'(
:-bd =D> :-bd
Well done that man =D>
Check the exposure compensation ;)
Just checked, just a small greasy finger on the lens ;D
Just finished the horses for the British light dragoons, so looks like those will be up next!
Good stuff on alll that - especially the casualty markers! Good luck when the wee one is toddling, chances of painting anything are slim :D
I think I'll skip an hour or 2 of sleep then to paint. ;D
You'll be lucky, that hour or two will likely be spent undoing the mayhem caused whilst the wee one is awake :D
Nah, I have an older one too clean that up ;D
So yesterday was promising, I did all the red on the light dragoons, and had started painting the shakos and details..
....and ended up behind the pc, ordering some "supplies".
Ordered a mounted napoleon and soult from Perry
Some washes and paints
12 more baseplates and flock from ziterdes to make more wood/jungle area bases.
Will try again later ;D
At least you made some progress ;) :!!

So the Napoleon mini is what, 3mm on your 10mm army?
Seeing he's from Perry miniatures, he would still comfortably crush 10mm beneath his hooves :P
Got the light dragoons finished!
1st light dragoons of the Kings German Legion by Perry miniatures:
(http://i.imgur.com/MYKRbdk.jpg) (https://imgur.com/MYKRbdk)
(http://i.imgur.com/XdfSeN2.jpg) (https://imgur.com/XdfSeN2)
(http://i.imgur.com/eDdVhjB.jpg) (https://imgur.com/eDdVhjB)
And some spares:
(http://i.imgur.com/gtFhBBx.jpg) (https://imgur.com/gtFhBBx)
I always have spares from the perry/warlord boxes, so i just put them in the assembly/painting line when i make the unit, and put them aside. If i ever want to do napoleonic skirmish, or am a model shor for a unit, i just have to take them from the pile!
So adding 14 to the total: 894 models finished!!
Superb (2502)
I'm starting to think you only pay 2mm ;D
Nah, other people pay me to paint, so I paint! 🎨
Couldn't do that. If I paint it, it's mine untill I'm done with it! (I'm never done with it :D )
:-bd =D> :-bd =D>
There is a good quote about the KGL Hussars in the Peninsula, I can't recall the source or exact wording at the moment
If you see a British Hussar gallop by ask what is happening, if it is a KGL Hussar prepare for action
That shoul be from general Robert Craufurd's men.
You can find the reasoning here:
http://jjwargames.blogspot.be/2014/11/1st-regiment-kings-german-legion-hussars.html?m=1
"During their advanced picket duties on the Portuguese/Spanish border they gained a reputation for being a reliable early warning of any French aggressive intent and General Craufurd's Light Bobs would rarely take notice of a galloping British light dragoon approaching their positions, but a KGL hussar was good reason to sound the stand to."
Thanks Peter
Craufurd had an interesting military career as well. Worth reading a bit about him!
Just finished the horses for the dragoons, now on to the riders!
Decided to paint the mounted and dismounted dragoons separately.
2nd dragoons dismounted by the Perry brothers:
(http://i.imgur.com/s5nT1QW.jpg) (https://imgur.com/s5nT1QW)
(http://i.imgur.com/1oa2TgB.jpg) (https://imgur.com/1oa2TgB)
Adding 8 tot the total brings me to 902! Down to the last 100!
:-bd =D> :-bd
Well done, that man =D>
Those are lovely
Thanks!
Now for the mounted ones. Back to work tomorrow so will be slowing down again. Might follow lemmey's advice and do some epic inbetween to set myself up for a grand finale. Don't want want to reach 1000 models with some rank and file models!
Very nice, indeed, Peter.
Cheers - Phil.
So finally finished the mounted dragoons:
2nd dragoons "dragons du roi"
(http://i.imgur.com/Ztdjwai.jpg) (https://imgur.com/Ztdjwai)
(http://i.imgur.com/TW9g2Bs.jpg) (https://imgur.com/TW9g2Bs)
bit too much light on this one
(http://i.imgur.com/2mkgSVh.jpg) (https://imgur.com/2mkgSVh)
and a leftover one for 'my pile'
(http://i.imgur.com/fxsXt2Q.jpg) (https://imgur.com/fxsXt2Q)
so adding 13 this brings me to 915 models finished!
Good work sir
:-bd =D> :-bd
Well done, that man =D>
Thanks!
Just finished putting texture paint on a bunch of epic stands. Total of 76 miniatures. So tomorrow in the afternoon, when the base texture is dry, just a drybrush or 2 and sticking the grass on, and i'll be at 991 models painted.
Then onto some special stuff to finish my challenge!!!
So these are done:
(http://i.imgur.com/X506VB5.jpg) (https://imgur.com/X506VB5)
Some space marine squads, command and librarians, and an inquisitor in front (shiny armour)
(http://i.imgur.com/FedfRHI.jpg) (https://imgur.com/FedfRHI)
Some terminators and a lone predator got as part of a lot
(http://i.imgur.com/JjNxddm.jpg) (https://imgur.com/JjNxddm)
So adding these to the total brings me to 991 models painted!
The last 9 will be something more of a treat fo me, but i hope i will find the time to finish them fast, as i have been putting off some scenery stuff to get more minis painted!
PS: i need a new detail brush, as it's getting a lot harder to paint the chapter emblems on the shoulder pads!
Excellent!
Told you painting Epic would boost your numbers (2600ish)
Well done, that man =D> =D> =D>

Well done Peter, a big pile of figures painted throughout the year.
I like the last few personality commanders.
The pill box is cool too, did you add the texture? But you need to paint the tabs that show when the roof is off.

Yes, i picked up this bottle a while ago in an "action" shop for a few euros.
(http://i.imgur.com/hStHpKn.jpg) (https://imgur.com/hStHpKn)
Just painted that on in two layers, and gave it a wash with dark grey when dry.
I had painted the tabs on the bunker itself in the first step, but it was such a tight fit i had to scrape them clean again. even now, with a bit of texture on the edges of the roof, i end up turning the roof around a couple times before i find a way to fit it in. VERY thight fit!
Will probably try washing them with a black wash and see how that goes.
Well done, mate :D
Pillbox looks good - those concrete/rough effect sprays are dead handy!
Actually it's no spray. Just a cheap and big bottle of paint!
Thanks!

Yup very easy. That way you can mix paint in and make different colours.
Very handy for drybrushing and detail then :D
That looks very handy, I'll keep an eye open for that.
Don't know if you guys have Action stores in England, but they always have some there. I use quite a bit of their acryllics. Cheap and great for basecoats!

Ive seen this type of texture in 1 gallon cans Home Depot, but it wasnt exactly cheap.
AFAIK Action stores are non food, cheap products.
I'd say its like Benjamin Franklins in the US, I dont know what they have like it in the UK.
So with the miniature part done this year, i'm committing myself to finish the scenery items tht have been gathering while i was painting the wee buggers.
warlord games stone walls and the buildings from the bolt action starter set.

Went for a very weathered look with lots of green from the seaweed(s).
Not completely happy with how they came out, but i'll stick to it instead of trying to make it better and instead inevitably making it worse ;D
And all of a sudden, all scenery is painted, wich seems ... odd :-\
I could have sworn i bought more scenery stuff. Maybe i'll stumble on a box of stuff hidden away later on!
