Didn't even know they were running a survey. It's not a magazine or website I buy or visit anymore

Thanks to everyone who voted, I was rather pleased to see that on Facebook today!  It's also a nice feeling to see that we're the highest ranked company outside of the 15mm/28mm offerings.

Me too

What's interesting is how far Battlefront have dropped down, from about a quarter in the previous survey, to a tiny slice now. Is WI still focused on Flames of War?

Didn't see the survey but as one of your distant customers have to say that PM's high ranking is well deserved based on my own experiences ordering 10mm goodies  ;)

Congrats Leon et. al.
I suspect if many of us had had any idea about this survey we would have done the right thing! :D
Ranges are great, service is great and your concentration on "God's scale" only will continue to pay off IMHO!
( in fact when you IPO I'll buy stock - the best vote of all)

I think I read that Dan Falconbridge has bought the magazine back from Battlefront, so although they probably still cover a fair chunk of Fow stuff, it's getting more diverse again.

Also Pendraken was voted for.

Flick through the mag when in WH Smith - but not a great deal in it anymore.

Results were interesting in what are deemed the best figures

As we know only 10mm actually count!

Rarely buy any longer. WSS a much better magazine in my opinion.

Being brutally honest I don't buy any wargames magazine anymore but read them all in WHS. The best for diversity -in my opinion anyway- is MWBG, and it caters for more than just 25mm. WI still seems to be an in-house magazine with over-lengthy battle reports and pictures illustrating the latest FoW offerings. WSS seems to concentrate more on 28mm although it does have the occasional article that takes my fancy.

Therefore apologies for not seeing or voting in the the poll.

No, I didn't know of the survey, so I wasn't one of the 'Pendraken 14'

I stopped buying WI a long time ago, and then decided not to start buying it again when it became Battlefronts very own white dwarf......

Interesting chat with the guy from MI at Falkirk, where he was lamenting the fact that Battlefront provide them with copy, graphics, photos and press releases in profusion and nobody else sends stuff of the same quality so they have lots of Battlefront stuff, so people think that's all they do so nobody else sends stuff ...

That said, I got the latest two issues to read on the bus back and had read everything of interest in about fifteen minutes.

Quick chaps, get submitting! A Warband article and a BBB in 10mm article every month shouldn't be hard ;)

A mate I know submitted a wargaming article that featured in a magazine. However, the magazine held back the article till they could get figures professionally painted to illustrate the article for eye candy.

This article I mention that got published was meant to be the first of three. But, the painter, who professionally painted the couple of figures for the article that got published, then decided not to paint any more for the magazine. So the magazine then said they didn't want to publish the two further gaming articles, as they needed to include eye candy images matching those already shown, and since the figure painter had said no, they, the magazine, couldn't therefore print. So my mate's articles were refused.

Another mate was begged for photo content from (possibly the same magazine) to which he went out of his way to aid them, in understanding that his name would be accredited to the images that would be used as 'eye candy' for an article.
The work got published. The magazine got the name wrong. My mate missed out on work from the (advertising) content.

Hmmmm. I have been reflecting and wonder if it's I think it's a bit like saying "who's your favourite football team?" in the Manchester United fanzine.

One of the reasons I stopped buying WI was because it was going the way of White Dwarf from a general mag to an extended advert for a few favoured manufactures.

Our club, Redcar Ironbeards subjected an article to WI about how a small club with very limited modelling talent put on demonstration games at shows. It focused on showing an average club and the fact that playing the game doesn't mean you have to have fantastically painted miniatures and beautifully crafted terrain to enjoy the hobby. The curt response we got back said the report just looked like a group of mates having a game and they would not publish it. I know eye candy sells but some people who are not very good at the painting and modelling side of the hobby still want to play.
Years ago there was a series in White Dwarf about collecting a Bretonian army by Nigel Stillman and he admitted that he was a very average painter but they printed the article without any repainting of the miniatures. The editior at the time was keen to promote all aspects of Games Workshop and admited that not everyone could paint well and he hoped the articiles would encourage others to join in.

Oh and to get back on thread I did vote for Pendraken  :D :D :D

Isn't the whole point of wargaming a bunch of mates having a game, or have I missed something?

That is true Leman, it's just people who produce magazines these days want to portray a perfect world not the one that most wargamers exist in =O =O

Maybe they should get into railway modelling instead. I mean, I like an attractive wargames table but it still has to be playable on, and usually has to be set up and taken down in an evening.

Interesting point. What little bit I did in model railroading involved laying out a mainline oval with several sidings and switches (you may call them something different), a few industrial buildings and no scenery.  All the fun was in operations, solving switching problems, that sort of thing. The glossy mags in either hobby are wonderful to look at but I think that there are many folks (as has been said) in both hobbies just doing the basics and getting to the game playing as quick as they can.  Explains the attraction of video games and the high production quality boardgames.

One of the reasons I like this forum is that a lot of us "common folk" find encouragement here  :)

This is really important - one of my gaming mates as terrain boards that have hedges glued to all the field boundaries - this looks great. But is really a pain to play on, unless you are playing a bocage fight in Normandy in the summer of 1944. And even then you have all the hedges the same, so all have to be heavy bocage, or just simple hedges.

Whereas plonk down terrain on top of a base cloth, doesn't look quite as good, but is much more versatile, and much more game friendly.

Good one!  :)

For some reason - and I can't fathom why this should be the response - the only tune readily available in my head was ZZ Top "sharp Dressed Man"
Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don't know where I am goin' to.
Silk suit, black tie,
I don't need a reason why.
They come runnin' just as fast as they can
Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man

Actually I tell a lie - that was second. the very first was "I've got 25 lighters on my dresser, yessir" but that made even less sense  :D

My mother told me, frequently, not to do that at the dinner table, but she also opined that if one had nothing good to say, one should slag off mercilessly.

I've had more fun playing "Tunnels and Trolls" with unpainted figures than against some rulesmith with a preponderance of Tigers and the innate ability to pull out rule 27.4.3 para 6 saying that PIATs can only fire on a Tuesday.

It doesn't have to be expensive. I would humbly suggest that less that £10 of Pendraken goodies could net you sufficient for a really good skirmish game in just about any period. You can refight the Falklands air war for the same amount with Tumbling Dice models.

The game is the thing. It's meant to be fun.
