Well, the comment was that's why I don't enter - buttons!! But yes they are beautifully produced SYW figures from one of my favourite periods. Wonder if Brad has come across Honours of War in that there France.

I'm guessing the answer is "if there is I don't know how" but might it be possible to turn off the "reply" option in those threads?

Well again, as my son put it to me today, the internet has not been going for that long and is not a perfect system. There are still many things about it that confuse me.

When I looked at it I wondered which of the Imperial Cavalry Brigades the HQ was for... and why that signaller was only a corporal :o

Is that a head swap or a new hat on the senior German officer in the third entry, the figure is from BP22?

Surely the "Singles" base catergory should only be open to those who are without a Significant other?

This message is not meant  to imply that  he or she, who is without a significant other (of any gender), is in that situation due to His or Her fault or misdemeanour or even mrdemeanour. Nor that He or she is lacking in anyway, or that they are of any less importance  than a he or a she who does have a significant other (of any gender.)

Neither is it to imply that he or she should feel that they need to find a Significant other (of any gender) in his or her social circle.

But that he or she should rejoice in his or her individuality and independance. Until that time when he or she should find a significant other (of any gender) that fulfills his or her needs and desires.

Most are single stand but in future could this include units? Pike and shot look weird without each other :)

Multiple bases are allowed this year, but still with a maximum of 16 figures in the entry.  We'll have a look at increasing that for next year though.

Mid way through the month, so far aiming to enter these categories

Foot - Pre-20th C.      [ready to photo]
Mounted                     [not started]
Vehicle                        [undercoated]
Fantasy & Sci-Fi          [ready to photo]
Open - Single Base     [ready to photo]
Open - Army!              [two units completed - third & officer undercoated]
Warband!                    [ready to photo]

Saying all that mind, all my stuff's 'gaming standard' so its more a case of joining in than thinking I'll be ranked.

I had hoped to have my Elf Warband army ready for the competition but that isn't going to happen (still at the undercoat stage!) so instead I will enter pics of my Goblin army. We are off to Poland tomorrow but in a week or so when we get back I should have my Squig Hopper unit finished and ready to post in the Warband unit category.

Yep.

The quality of painting is getting better year on year. I am a bit surprised that there have been so few entries so far, not sure if this is just because everyone is rushing to finish, or, like me, they are struggling to find motivation to finish stuff off, when it feels that even my best isn't really up to the standard of the competition any more.

Well usually i am the first one to post a lot of stuff. (been first to post in 20th century foot category for 3 years) That was because i made sure i had everything done up front.

This year with the baby and  all that i am late, and just finished another entry a few hours ago. Been waiting for good light since the start too, as otherwise i will have crap pics for another year. Might take some today if i can.

Thanks. Can't get the green right in the photo.

If you are using daylight balanced painting lights, try setting the white balance to (you guessed it) daylight. I generally have to do that to get the colours right. A prodominantly green subject (something tanky for instance) will throw off auto white balance.

My photos were taken with a smartphone using the lights I paint with. I was experimenting with a cheap light box but they didn't come out quite how I expected, and I was too lazy to break out the dslr and all the gadgets it needs.

Unfortunately, I see a horse drawn wagon in the vehicle section so you might be outgunned in the competition :)

cheers lad, each group of 3 is mounted on a 20mm round base, and then this is placed in one of the 'zombie' sabots from warbases.

then I use the 'baccus basing system' that I originally had for my 6mm stuff, and broke it up with a few tufts.

hope that helps

Not wishing to rock the boat, nor start a debate, but I'd say the horse-drawn wagon was in the correct category. It being a horse-drawn vehicle.

Quote from: WikipediaA horse-drawn vehicle is a mechanized piece of equipment pulled by one horse or by a team of horses. These vehicles typically had two or four wheels and were used to carry passengers and/or a load. They were once common worldwide, but they have mostly been replaced by automobiles and other forms of self-propelled transport.

At least that's how I'd view it.  :)

right then, some assistance required, I've decided to change the photos for my entry in the the pre-20th century foot category. For some reason I can't seem to find the edit or delete post button? Am I just having a moment and totally missing something, or is this feature disabled in this specific thread.

any help much appreciated!

You can only edit posts for a short while after posting, around 30 mins.

If you email Leon he can probably add the new photo. Or just do a new post and ask for the old one to be deleted.

As Fred says, there's a time limit on editing your posts, so you can either email me the links to your new images, or make a new entry post and I'll delete the old one for you.

We're a little behind previous years, but not far.  In 2014 we had about 70 by the 24th and then went on to hit 207 overall.  We always see over 100 entries in the last 3 days of the comp, so that'll be 27th/28th/29th this year.

As long as the combined size of the entry is smaller than 100x100mm, that should be OK.

I'm struggling to get photos to a size small enough to be uploaded direct to the site. I only have a very basic photo edit package which wont let me resize photos.

Can I simply post links to my blog?

Yes.

Add the images to a blog post. On each image right click and select copy image address.
Back to the forum, click the insert image icon (3rd one on 2nd row, looks like a landscape picture)
Paste between the two img tags (the cursor should be in the right place).

It sounds more complex than it is!

Despite having lots of stuff painted in the last 11.75 calendar months, I am sticking to my own, self-imposed, rules, and only entering things painted in February. Last batch had flock, clump and scatter added last night and this morning.
So serious impressive stuff out there.

You're mad! Well its your name!

I've managed to paint a couple of entries this month - but could never get close to an entry per category in just one month.

Its taken a good chunk of time this morning just to photograph stuff, and now to sort through the photos.

First time I've had to sit down and go through all the entries since the comp closed. Wow! There are some great entries. And seeing them all back to back is even more impressive. I don't envy the judges, as you scroll down you go that one's good, then you see another, then another, I'm glad I don't have to pick.

It's a bit of a shame that the number of entries is down a bit this year.
