Hey, Leon!
How about next year we have a category for converted Pendraken figures?
But please make sure you invite Atavus to be amongst the judges! :D

Ooh, second that, provided no-one who's any good is allowed to enter :D
Seriously, that's a really great idea :-bd

And Javier Gomez. ;)
I think a hell of a lot of the entries in the comp are already conversions in one form or another (part of what makes it such a strong competition)
Cuold be nice to separete the conversions (who always have a bonus of originality) from regular paint.
Then conversions fight each other.
It's certainly a good idea, although all of the categories allow conversions already. We'd have to weigh up whether we could support another category with prizes as well, both on our own side and from other companies, as we've already pencilled in a 'Warband' category for the new rules/figures.

When you look at the size of the prize (£20 plus goodies to the value of a further £20-30) you are being incredibly generous for quite a small investment by us entrants.
And I note that in the "Why I enjoy the competition" post, little has been made of the prizes.
I wonder if you could halve the value of the prizes and still have as many entrants.
It's £20 Pendraken to the winner, £10 Pendraken to the runner-up, so there's £210 from us each year. Plus £20-30 from the third-party company, so another £140-£210 from them as well. The prizes from us are easy enough, as long as it brings more interest in, but getting more prizes from other people is the struggle each year, as I've already tapped up most of the 10mm oriented companies!

Now THAT is something i can't wait to see! :-bd
There's prizes?
I thought winner just got a hearty handshake, maybe a pat on the back unless some of the chaps think that might be too much touching, three loud Huzzahs and maybe a complimentary sherry in the forum bar
Maybe we could chip in a quid each?
Having the medal(s) on your profile is something to be proud of. Best part of the prize i think. :)

Have to admit that they are the motivation for me.
If I didn't qualify for them one year, it would make me doubly motivated to do better next.
The store credit with Pendraken is an added incentive mind ;)

Let's make the following prize: Just print the totty forum in book format and send it to the winner of conversions categopry. Cheap and interesting.
As long as it's only the illustrated posts! :)

But don't show it to your wife! ;)
Prizes? I thought we did it for honor and glory! :-bd
I think a conversion category is a nice idea, but it will be a pity that all the entries with some kind of conversion must be relegated to thin category. I´m saying this because I think I have not presented to the competition a single base without some kind of modification... I like to give my "personal touch" to the minis :D
However, if we give the same flexibility as the other categories (a barbarian warlord mounted on bison could be entered in "Single base", "Mounted" or "Fantasy" categories) I really think it will be a VERY interesting category :-\
Cheers!

I don't think you'd "have" to enter conversions in a conversion category but rather if the conversion was the major element: "hey look at my funky new TECHNique; see what I can do with PHILer" sort of thing; it could go in a separate category. :)

Have experience of this then? :D
I do indeed but I still haven't managed to get 8 score draws :'(

:)
Obviously, a heavy conversion should be "oriented" to this category.

Maybe, think it should largely be left to the individual.
I think the conversion idea, if judging on the discussion so far on this topic, may prove a minefield of misunderstanding and uncertainty as to where to post entries.
Also, the painting competition at present is judged upon the painting and presentation of the entry, not if it is converted or unique. At least that is my understanding. So entries involving conversions or additional sculpting are just slotted into the existing categories and thus help to keep the judge's job simple.
It's a good suggestion, don't get me wrong. :)

Keep it simple is always a a good sugestion. The judges job is already hard enough... ;)

Yeah but it does give Phil a
genuine reason for going blind! :D :D :D
Unlikely to do that as a conversion can involve using parts from another manufacturers' figures.
Yer make it one entry per category per person so there is no spamming and will make it fairer
A fair comment from my lad,but after all it is a painting comp, not a sculpting comp.I for one count my self as a fair sculpter, and a crap painter so i will win nothing, but it will not stop me entering. So for me (and probably my lad),a conversion or sculpting slot would be a godsend, but bear in mind not every body can sculpt so you would end up with the same ones dominating and pushing out the majority who just paint.
Though i do think the judges sometimes don't take into full consideration the skill and work that goes into some convertions and dioramas.Anyhow nuf said,i will probably have the old boy network up in arms by now.And my chances off getting anywhere in future comps, well and truly scuppered.
