Title: Show: Warfare, Reading
Post by: Leon on 01 October 2014, 12:43:24 AM
Excellent 2-day show at the Rivermead Sports Complex in Reading.  With the loss of Colours this year, there's even more reason to come along!

More info can be found here: http://www.wargamesassociationreading.co.uk/ and we'll need any pre-orders before 8th November please!

This was an excellent show, the highest number of visitors they've ever had, with about 1800 through the door over the whole weekend I think.  It was our best year down there as well, which must be due in some part to the loss of Colours this year.

And on that note, we found out that Colours will now be returning for 2015, in the same venue and on the same weekend, but as a one-day show instead.  Personally, I think this is a very good move as it brings the stand costs down substantially, and I don't think they'll lose too many visitors by getting rid of the Sunday.

Glad to hear you had a good weekend. Lovely to hear that Colours will be returning, even as a one day show. Better start planning now for a demo table... :-\.

I had a fun morning on the Saturday. Managed to grab a 10mm bargain at the bring and buy including another mob of Pendraken goblins and wolves  :D

Then had great fun being a pirate captain on a dinosaur infested treasure island courtesy of Wessex Wargamers Winchester - which I believe won best participation game  8)

After that it was time for a spot of retail therapy! Managed to catch the Pendraken stand during a brief quiet moment and say hi. Then it was time to hunt some d30s and giant (pink, sparkly) d6es for my daughters; pop buy Timecast to see if Will/Lemmey had been allowed time off of good behaviour - apparently not, still owe you that raptor Coke mate, see you next year ;) - before heading home for the annual Wales versus the South Sea Islanders torture-fest we loyal fans have come to - hmm - *love*!!  :'(

See you next year guys  :-bd

Cheers,

Meirion

They mentioned the brownie point deficit when I asked at the Timecast stand  ;)

Although I have to say that there was a pretty big clue that you weren't going to be there when I saw you post in the painting thread timed at ~2:30am on the Saturday morning...  :o :!! ;D

Ah well, there's always next year ;)

Your turn to pick.
Something obscure?

Hmm, tempting - have to have a good ponder on that one...  :-\

Only of the participation game I was in really.  They were on my phone so I'll have to see how clear they are on a big screen.

Right, a few suggestions:

(War) mammoth, not at all obscure really, but I have a project in mind.

A chariot: a bit obscure - and at least I own one!

Crab walker: fairly obscure, although I have a theoretical project that one might fit into...

Desert Rats: obscurer still, kind of go with my crab walker idea and I find the idea strangely fascinating...  :-\

Troll centaurs: absolutely mental idea  8-} - can't even think where I might use them, but somehow very tempting - possibly inspired by that gorilla/elephant photo in another thread ;)

Any suggestions?!

Cheers,

Meirion

Painted a war mammoth this summer, plus undead and goblin chariots previously.
Desert rats might be a laugh, but Troll Centaurs are also on my 'no idea but want list'!
I have Elven Outcasts to paint (ala Robin Hood).
Evil Centaurs?
Egyptian Mythology?
Sand Orcs?

The last two, they are both fun and cool.

And sort of on a theme too.

Okay, what from those ranges?

Well, I have plenty of Egyptian mythology figures, so I'm happy to go with them.

I'm tempted to say whole army, but at the rate you paint they'd be done by Tuesday week whilst I might just have got them out of the packet by Christmas... ;D

Still, the troll centaurs ARE kind of tempting...  8->

Okay, troll centaurs, mix of on each base or one pack?
Grave guard Or Anubis?

Sounds like we are arranging a duel! Choose your weapons sir! Who shall act as our seconds? ;)

Single base any sort?  Leon, can you do us a competition special pack of one of each +1 pack?! ;)

Grave guard Or Anubis?

I'm drifting towards a whole army since I have the figures!  Is that too much for you?  Means we've got entries for at least two categories!  8)

It does doesn't it!

Mixed acrylics at what, 200 miles?  <)  Gotta be one of my daughters!  How old is your eldest?  I have 9 and 5 year-olds to carry my paint pots and brushes...  ;)

Cheers!

Yup, that's what I've got - plus some extras second-hand from Nik  :D

Hmm, might need some palm trees... :-\

Just told my daughter that if anything happens to me it's her duty to uphold the family honour - the look on her face  :o

Stand up for yourself in 2015.

Tell her. " I AM going to whichever shows I choose"

You should be able to walk normally after a few days  ;D ;D. Conjugals may be a bit sparse though!
