SYW Austrians & Prussians

Blimey - a gap of over a week...that's not good  

Not much to look at - but have done all the base colours of all the horses for both Austrian (rear) & Prussian (front) cavalry and commanders - essentially using a 4-colour variation: Bestial Brown (ie leave as they are from the prepped stage); Dark Fleshtone; Leather Brown; Cold Grey - about 30 mins:

Total elapsed time = 11 hrs 10 mins:

Fast 30 mins worth of detailing gee-gees: manes & tails basecoated & highlighted; stars / blazes painted - for both forces although these quick-pics are just of the Austrians.

Two units of Austrian Cuirassiers done last night: 45mins

Total elapsed time = 12 hrs 25 mins

Rain stopped play (before it started) with my cricket match tonight - so 40 minutes spent doing the Hussars:

Far too long in-between painting these  

Anyway, Dragoons & Commanders done today - so Prussians to follow...

These took about 45 mins

What are you using for the round bases on your generals?

The round bases for commands are some of those new-ish "Display" type base that come with 28mm figures - these ones here called "Newstyle"...I only used them because I had a load knocking around   http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/MINIAATURES_BASES.html

They work quite well though, because they have an indentation [ie the lip is higher than the middle] - so glue figures in & then fill with Polyfilla to line of base before texturing.

Thanks nosher - although I did realise that I'd not finished the headgear   (red top pom-pom thingy wotsit).

Wow. With or without the red top pom-pom thingy wotsits this is quite an achievement. And an inspiration to those of us who have little time to spare for painting between work, children, household and everything else.

2 dogs [demanding]
2 cats [law-unto-themselves]
2 fish [actually, these are pretty effortless and really not very demanding  ]

Good grief, talk about a busy life. Don't you ever find yourself painting the wife, feeding your boss, seeing the horses off to school and - I don't know - eating your models?

Only at weekends 

Right - while listening to the England cricket team replicate my wargaming efforts by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory tonight, I did the Prussian artillery - in a little under 45 minutes:

Took my time with these - I think because it was all a bit stop-and-start: so about 5.5 hours:
